Warren is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on the Ottawa River. The population was 37,083 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ottawa County and is part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. The name Warren comes from French meaning "forested place". The first settler in what would become Warren was Jean Baptiste Chouteau, who arrived in 1795 and named his land after François-Jacques Chouteau, Marquis de Lafayette. In 1824, John Cranch founded a trading post near present-day Warren with James Gage as its first owner. A post office was established at Warren in 1827, and by 1830 it had a population of fifty-six people. In 1840, Prentice Rush sold 640 acres (2 km²) to John Denny for $1 million dollars; this made Warren one of the largest townships in Michigan at that time. Denny founded Detroit Manufacturing Company on parts of this land in 1847 and started production there of what would become known as Dearborn steel products until 1957 when he moved it to Abbott Laboratories in Allendale Township, Michigan where it continued operation until 1974 before being bought by American Steel Dynamics Corporation (ASD) parent company ArcelorMittal Group plc for $3 billion US dollars as part of an overall strategic retreat from heavy manufacturing towards service industries under pressure from China's Economic Revolution spurring industrial consolidation around the world. Warren became an incorporated village on December 12th 1897 when trustees voted to create a Village Committee chaired by Mrs angelica Waddell Draper with responsibility for organization and development within their boundaries including but not limited to building houses “on location” or through subscription among themselves subsequent to passage through taxation laws authorizing such proceedings which were then passed into law by both houses concurring therein having been ratified by all female members then apportioned thereto ratifying said ordinances hereinabove mentioned having full power thereof at any time hereafter granted without further ado etc etc etc... Warren is a small town in the Kalamazoo County of Michigan, United States. The population was 2,041 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights–Harrison Township, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first known mention of Warren is from 1810 when it was called "Waren". In 1814, it was renamed to "Warren". The town site was platted in 1835 and named for John Warren who had been elected as an Acting Sheriff of Wayne County in 1830. The town plat included a school and a general store. A post office operated in Warren from 1836 to 1861. In 1871, the town was consolidated with Harrison Township. In 1898, Warren became one of the original twenty townships within Muskegon Heights Township when that township was organized. Since then, it has been subject to changes such as annexation by other municipalities or being removed from that township entirely due to changing demographics or economic conditions. On July 1, 2002, Warren became a part of the newly formed Muskegon Heights–Harrison Township MSA which includes all but three of the seven villages within that MSA: Houghton-le-Spring Village (the last village being eliminated on June 30th), East Lansing Village (which merged into Lansing on July 1st), and Grand Blanc Village (which merged into Battle Creek on July 1st).
