From the Revolutionary War to Desert Storm, military Gift History has been a part of history in Westland, Michigan. From small presents to large and costly items, military deployments have always had an impact on our community. In commemoration of military gift history in Westland, Michigan, we are collecting images and stories of what has come before. The first Military Deployment in Westland was during the Revolutionary War when General George Washington sent a detachment of troops to help defeat the British forces at Saratoga. Thesmall presents given to soldiers during this time were usually coins or pieces of jewelry. During World War I, gifts for service members totaled over $1 million dollars! Gifts from friends and family were common during these times as war meant economic hardship for many families. There was a lot of patriotism among the population at this time and many people donated goods or money to support their loved ones in the line of duty. During World War II much larger items were shipped across state lines for use by the United States Armed Forces. A variety of gifts were given such as radios, automobiles, appliances and other furniture. During this time also came new technologies like radar which allowed commanders more information about their troops on battlefields. Large donations also came from businesses such as Ford Motor Company who provided trucks and equipment for American servicemen stationed abroad. numerous smaller donations also occurred throughout WWII including toiletries like toothpaste and shaving razors; clothing such as uniforms; food items such as canned goods;and medical supplies like bandages and aspirin-all with the hope that these donations would make a difference on battle fields around the world! After World War II ended there was a dearth of large gifts from individual donors but instead various governments bestowed grants upon local communities in order “to build democracy” (Moses). Various organizations such as Holocaust Memorial Museum have received grants from government entities in order to preserve period memorabilia related to Nazi Germany e.g., art works looted from Jewish homes during WWII . Since 9/11 many people have become interested in both military deployment history and PTSD awareness specifically due to Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) which took place over summer 2007-2008 within Afghanistan . Many individuals have donated clothes, shoes, hats etcetera in order to raise money for relief efforts being conducted by NATO member countries Relief Worldwide Limited (RWL). Numerous events are organized throughout different parts of America each year honoring those affected by OEF including The Big Day Out – an event where entire blocks surrounding Wayne State University celebrate Afghanistan Veterans Day with entertainment including marching bandshell shows & vendors selling Afghan handicrafts Today’s society is constantly bombarded with news alerts pertaining both domestically & internationally which can often create stress & anxiety especially if it affects someone close- however there is something calledMilitary Gift History that goes back decades ago & continues up until today that allows us all TO CELEBRATE OUR OWN PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY(BETTER THAN JUST HAVING SHIT ON THE TABLE) BY GIVING BACK SOMETHING THAT MADE AN IMPACT ON OTHER PEOPLE INCLUDING MILITARY MEMBERS OF OUR LOCALITIES WHO HAVE DONE TIME IN THE WESTLAND FIELD OR ARE SERVING NOW LOCATED THROUGHOUT AMERICA

Westland is a small town in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census, up from 1,726 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Grand Rapids-Lansing metropolitan statistical area. The village of Westland was founded in 1892 by farmers who moved from Canada and opened a store in what is now their downtown square. The first post office was established in 1896 and Westland had its first schoolhouse in 1907. In 1914, it became an incorporated village with a mayor and five trustees; it remained that way until 1967 when it became an unincorporated community under statehood status. The Village of Westland has two schools: one public school serving students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade (grades K1 through 4) and one private school for grades 9 through 12 which also serves as the town's only hospital; both schools are operated by Wayne County Schools District No. 6A. There are also three churches associated with the village - First Baptist Church, Methodist Church (now Unitarian), and Catholic Church - all of which offer services to residents of Westland as well as surrounding villages or townships within Wayne County including East Palestine Township, East Lansing Township, Wyoming Township, White Flint Township, Saginaw Heights Borough and Dearborn Heights Borough. As with most small villages throughout Michigan, there isn't much commercial development outside of the bedroom/workplace areas found around larger Midwestern cities like Detroit or Chicago; however there have been some limited efforts being made to develop infrastructure such as new roads or water systems within Villa Park township adjacent to Westland Village but without access to Main Street which would provide retail opportunities for residents on either side of Main Street between Villa Park Boulevard northward to I-94 eastward while still remaining inside Villa Park Township boundaries

Westland is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the county seat of Ottawa County. The population was 26,651 at the 2010 census. It is a small town located on the far western edge of Lansing Township and bordered by Grand Ledge to the north, Clinton Township to the east, and Oakland County to the south. The first permanent settler in what is now Westland was Nicholas Hogg who arrived in 1788 with his family from Yorkshire, England. On July 14, 1810 he married Sarah Goodrich and they founded a farm on what is now Main Street. In 1814 they bought out Nicholas's brother John Goodrich and moved their property to its current location which included land that serves as today's downtown core of Westland including parts of Third Street, Washington Park (now known as Maplewood), Huron Avenue (now known as Gratiot Avenue), Main Street (now State Road 11), South First Street (now I-94), and Broadway between Canadian Boulevard and Woodward Avenue west of University Place where it meets East Indian Drive today. From this new location Hogg started producing cheese for local consumption which became popular among local farmers before becoming one of America’s leading cheese businesses dating back over 200 years
