Ypsilanti, Michigan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The population was 76,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in MI after Detroit. Ypsilanti has been inhabited by various cultures for over 4,000 years and has experienced multiple waves of settlement throughout its history. In 1837, Ypsilanti was founded by George Washington Carver as a trading post on the Muskegon River between Detroit and Grand Rapids; it became a town in 1857 when it absorbed part of unincorporated Gratiot County. The area now known as Ypsilanti was first settled by Huron people during the 17th century; their village of Grosse Pointe on Rouge River was destroyed by French forces during Cadillac’s War (1756–57). A new village called Nanticoke was organized about 1800 near what is now Midland Park Boulevard; this site had been abandoned due to an outbreak of smallpox that year. Iroquois people also occupied parts of what is now Ypsilanti from around 1000 AD to 1600 AD. In 1837, John Leland purchased 1,200 acres (500 ha) east of present-day downtown Ypsilanti from General Anthony Wayne for $2 per acre ($/ha). Leland built his plantation here on land he had acquired from Indian chief Wabashwego in 1805 following his victory over Wayne at Battle Creek Bridge along the Canadian River nearmodern day Ann Arbor Junction Some local historians have suggested that Leland may have bought or leased additional land beyond today's township limit in order to create a large plantation estate which would encompass much of eastern Washtenaw County today including Dearborn Heights, Midland Park Boulevard northward to Watertown Township and southeastward to Mt Pleasant Township., although this theory remains unsupported.[1][2] As part of Leland's plan for development, he named his new community "Nanticoke". By 1840 however most residents either moved away or were killed off Cape Girardeau Township due to malaria spread through contact with Europeans living there.;[3] only one family – that of Levi Coffin – remained until 1865 when they sold their interest in Nanticoke back to John Leland Jr..[4] The town center itself did not emerge until about 1850 when some homes were erected on undeveloped land just south of Main Street between Carpenter Road and Saginaw Avenue ;[5][6][7][8] construction continued intermittently until 1895 when all but one building were destroyed by fire while still under construction.[9][10] The first school opened in November 1850 educationally enable children from rural areas west side main street

After years of service between American ports and fighting against British troops along America’s eastern seaboard during both world wars, HMS Victory finally reached her home port at Portsmouth Harbour on September 7th 1946 after over 100 years serving our country!

Ypsilanti, Michigan was founded in 1837 as a small village on the east side of the lower Peninsula of Michigan. It became an important center for trade and industry in the area during the early years of the American Revolution. In 1795, Ypsilanti was one of two small villages located on Upper Peninsula (the other being Grand Rapids) that were organized as a town under the authority of the Territorial Governor. The first mayor and council were elected by popular vote in 1800. After disagreements over taxation and governance led to its dissolution as a town in 1802, it rejoined Upper Peninsula under state government jurisdiction. From 1834 to 1847, Ypsilanti was also home to what is now Western Michigan University. In 1865, when Michigan seceded from United States control, Ypsilanti became part of Canada; it would remain so until 1976 when it returned to U.S. control following the purchase of Canadian land by then-President Gerald Ford through executive order. After World War II ended and America's postwar economy began to improve, Ypsilanti experienced rapid growth with new businesses popping up all over town: automotive giants General Motors and Chrysler; steelmakers Freeport-McMoRan and Bethlehem Steel; aluminum manufacturers Alcoa and United Aircraft Industries; publishing firms Hearst Publications Incorporated and Macmillan Publishers Incorporated; real estate developers Kinney & Co.; among others. The population reached more than 100,000 by 1970 but peaked at 122,000 in 1980 before gradually declining over subsequent decades due to various factors including suburbanization, loss of jobs in manufacturing sectors such as autos or lumbering industries, increased commute times from Detroit or other larger metropolitan areas, demographic changes brought about by Immigration Act Amendments (1965 et al.) giving rise to Hispanic/Latino populations living within commuting distance of major cities while African Americans moved into rural areas outside these cores for economic opportunities unavailable elsewhere.
