Brookhaven is a city in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,857 at the 2010 census. The first white people to live in Brookhaven were two families who left Decatur in 1839 for$10 per month. They named their new town after Isaac Brock (1796-1868), one of the early investors in the Mississippi Valley Railroad. Brookhaven had its start as a small hamlet on the banks of the Natchez River. In 1902, Brookhaven became an incorporated community and by 1930 it had a population of 2,000. In 1933, when Jackson was elected president and his first term was coming to an end, he recommended that Brookhaven be annexed into Jackson Township so that more residents could vote for him and control City Hall more effectively. The City Council accepted his recommendation and incorporation took place on November 16th of that year. On July 1st of 1941 there were 4 bombing raids onJackson which killed 44 people including Mayor John Saucier and 3 members of City Council including Chairman Julius "Jock" Jenkinson; this event is known as "The Blitz." In 1951 a large reactor plant called Watts Ferry exploded during construction creating an environmental disaster which damaged or destroyed many homes, businesses and other infrastructure near the site; this event is also known as "The Hill Drive Disaster." In 1955–1956 Brookhaven experienced what is said to be one of the worst riots in American history with local citizens protesting against high tuition rates at college affiliate Ole Miss located just outside town limits; however no violence occurred as a result of these protests. In 1960–1961 racial violence erupted between black students from nearby Huston-Tilton High School and white students from Dowling High School resulting in five deaths; this event is also known as "The race riot." Brookhaven has seen some economic changes over its years including several job losses due to outsourcing by companies such as ADM/EADS (now Lockheed Martin) during Iraq War II while other jobs have been created in various industries throughout recent years such as information technology and healthcare delivery systems (Hospitality Management). With its location within easy commuting distance to major cities like Jackson, Meridian, Starkville etc., Brookhaven has become increasingly popular among professionals working in those cities with numerous nightlife options available close by should they wish to call home late at night or wanted to attend events outdoors but don’t want full contact with city living restrictions instituted by other parts of metropolitan area like Starkville.

Brookhaven is a town in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 6,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1847 by John Fenton and others as LumberCity. It became Brookhaven after it was donated to the United States government by General James Wilkinson in 1857 as part of land sales made following the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The first post office in Brookhaven was established on July 1, 1847, and named for John Fenton, one of its founders. In 1865,brookhaven changed its name to honor Ulysses S. Grant when he became president of the United States. After his death in 1886, Grant's widow requested that the town be renamed for him but this request was rejected by Hinds County commissioners because they felt that Grant had already been given too much credit for his work during his lifetime and wanted to keep his nameakespirit alive within their community rather than referring to him merely as "Ulysses S." In 1930-1931, Brookhaven experienced a devastating tornado which destroyed most of the downtown business district and left many residents homeless. More than $1 million (in 2003 dollars) has been raised since then to help reconstruction efforts inBrookhaven and surrounding townships hit particularly hard by Katrina damage two years later.
