The United States Army was first deployed in Cleveland, Mississippi during World War II. The city became a key military town due to the large number of troops stationed there and the fact that it is located on the edge of the Gulf Coast. Additionally, the city was home to several major airfields used by the military during World War II. This led to the development of a strong military community in Cleveland. The army has remained active in Cleveland through various wars and peacekeeping missions since 1945. Today, Cleveland retains its importance as a military town with significant portions of its infrastructure dedicated to soldiering. The city also hosts numerous barracks and facilities for housing troops and their families throughout Northeast Ohio. Cleveland’s military presence began on December 12, 1941 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with world-wide consequences. In response to this attack, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered America’s commitment to war against Japan as part of his strategy for “the common defense”. In November 1942, General George Patton was named Commander of Fifth Army which would be responsible for Operation Neptune’s Spear which would involve invading Japanese-held Burma across the Indian Ocean Sea (Operation Husky). On December 7th, 1942 General MacArthur received orders from Roosevelt orders authorizing him to invade Corregidor Island in what is now known as southern Philippines should Japanese forces try unsuccessfully to retake it from American forces under General Douglas MacArthur (Operation desperation). As part of Operation Mockingbird – an intelligence gathering operation – American spies were sent into Southeast Asia in orderto collect derogatory information about Japans intentions regarding Manchuria and China respectively (Franklin D Roosevelt Presidential Executive Order 9066). It should be noted that these secret operations took place not just within America but also within our international allies such as France and Great Britain who were also playing a role in WWII at different points along its duration In addition to providing logistical support for Ulysses S Grant’s Union Expeditionary Force fighting North Africa Campaign (December 1942 - May 1943), Overland Field served as Headquarters Seventh United States Army Combat Command during Southwest Pacific Area until relieved by Eighth United States Army on October 16th 1944 When hostilities ended on September 2nd 1945 following atomic bombing raids over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, most American soldiers returned home However approximately 61% of all enlisted members serving in Europe continued onto their return trip via sea convoy January 1946 Upon re-entry into liberated Germany they were processed by local authorities then taken directly into municipal prisons where they awaited trial before public commissions or decrees without counsel or representation On April 14th 1948 Truman signed Executive Order 9982 which abolished all racial discrimination among service members both while performing services within the US Armed Forces and upon re-entry into civilian life

Cleveland, Mississippi is a city in the U.S. state of Mississippi and the county seat of Rankin County. The population was 20,986 at the 2010 census, making Cleveland the second most populous municipality in Rankin County after Jackson. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. The first white settlers in Cleveland were James Caldwell and his family who arrived from Georgia in 1801. They built a log cabin on what is now Western Avenue and named it Caldwell's Ferry Landing which they sold to John Cook (1786-1868). Cook ran the ferry across Cumberland River for passengers coming downriver from Tennessee Valley Territory (now Alabama) on their way to Natchez, Mississippi or Houston, Texas. In 1827, he laid out a town site on present-day Eastern Boulevard between Euclid Avenue and Western Avenue with three stores, four homes and two churches/synagogues. He named it Cleveland after Sir George Washington's plantation near Mount Vernon in Virginia where he had been born some years earlier. In 1876, when cotton plantations were abolished throughout most of America by President Rutherford B Hayes due to its high price tags and slave labor requirements during Reconstruction era, many African Americans moved into what are now northeastern Ohio counties such as Stark and Clinton Counties seeking refuge from racism that was common throughout much of America at that time. Many black residents of western Indiana migrated eastward as well because they could not find work on American farms while still living among white people who discriminated against them based upon their color alone without any proof other than skin color that they were different from everyone else within their community or country according to European standards at that time.. After passage of The Civil Rights Act Enforcement Order No. 56 issued by then Attorney General Ramsey Clark on July 15th1965%, African Americans began streaming into Cleveland through various means such as buses brought over by white people working for local companies like Dow Chemical Company who needed skilled labor for their new manufacturing plants located throughout Northeast Ohio during this period known as "The Greenback Revolution." This influx led to increased housing prices in Cleveland which helped jump start an economy which continued until the late 1970s when all major commercial establishments closed down due to competition from competitors overseas with no end in sight except for a few small businesses that survived thanks to government assistance programs like food stamps and free loans available through banks during that time period known as "The Great Recession". Brownsburg real estate agent Edward Logue played an important role in helping many black families purchase property outside of downtown Cleveland beginning around 1960s giving these families access to quality homes inside Downtown Cleveland while also providing transportation options via bus routes connecting neighborhoods within walking distance near shopping malls or large office complexes like Saks Fifth Avenue Department Store Phase I & II before becoming defunct around 2000s when big box retail stores opened up all around town including one recently being built adjacent to Progressive Field sports stadium nicknamed "the new downtown" which has greatly impacted residential values within close proximity since then
