The United States Air Force has been providing service to the people of Gautier, Mississippi since World War II. The USAF's 1st Fighter Wing is located in this small town and provides air support for a variety of missions, both inside and outside the country. Gautier is a small town in Pike County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,447 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Gautier was founded in 1871 by French-Canadian fur traders Pierre and Jean Gaultier and their families. The post office was first opened in 1872. The community began as a farming community with small acreage and few people. In 1907, the town developed into an agricultural center with 5000 acres (2 hectare) of land irrigated through canals and ditches. Cotton production became the dominant industry after World War II; however, it has since declined due to environmental degradation and competition from other crops. The Gaultiers left Gautiere in 1969 when they sold their farmstead to developers for $5 million dollars ($). The townspeople have tried to revive the cotton industry but have not been successful; however, some residents still maintain that cotton woolen textile manufacturing played an important role in early Gautierre development. Today there are only a few remaining businesses that produce agricultural products such as hay, oats, tomatoes, and vegetables; these businesses are now struggling against increased competition from other industries such as service providers and retail outlets catering to more urban customers who cannot easily visit rural areas for shopping purposes

The NDSM is sometimes referred to as the “Air Force Cross” because it is similar in design to the British Commonwealth medal, which was first awarded for service in World War II. There are currently three types of NDSM: those for active duty members who have completed at least five years of honorable service; those for retirement members who have retired with at least five years honorable service; and those for civilians who have rendered distinguished services to their country or community through volunteering or being drafted into military service. Another tradition that started within the USAF is Officer's Mess Boxes (OMBs). OMBs were first given as aThank You Gift in 1984 and continue to be given today as part of special event packages or as a way to show appreciation for exceptional achievements by airmen and women throughout squadron and wing levels. Gautier was founded by Frenchmen in 1796 as a small town on the Yazoo River. The town became an important center for cotton production, and Gautier became known as the "Cotton Capital of Mississippi." In 1819, Gautier was renamed to Jackson after General Andrew Jackson, who had served as its mayor during the American Revolution. Gautier declined to be named the capital of Mississippi because it would have been associated with slavery. However, in 1892, Gautier was renamed again to honor Dr. John C. Gilliland, a pioneer in pediatric care and one of the founders of Jackson Clinic. In 1901, Gautier's cotton industry went into decline and its residents were forced to leave their homes. However, over the years some residents have returned and continue to live in Gautierre today. Some aspects of local culture such as music and food remain unchanged despite this history change.
Gautier was a small town in northwestern Mississippi during the early 1800s. At its peak, Gautier had around 100 residents and was home to a Methodist church, school, whorehouse, and a printing press. The town was destroyed by Union troops in 1863 during the American Civil War.
