Gautier is located in southern Mississippi and is a small, unincorporated community that was once the center of local trade. Gautier was founded by French colonists in 1798, and it has been occupied by various cultures and groups since then. The town experienced an influx of African Americans during the 1960s when desegregation laws were implemented in Mississippi. Today, Gautier is home to a few hundred black residents and several dozen white families. The town's history begins with the arrival of French colonists in 1798. The colony was based at Forts Jackson and Stono Ferry, both located near present-day Gautier. Over time, the town grew significantly as traders moved into Gautierre from surrounding areas. By 1827, most of what is now Gautierre had been established. At that time, it consisted of just a handful of log homes and a store. Despite its small size, early Gautiere saw some significant development over time. In 1837, for example, the first school district was created in what is now Gautiere. Additionally, construction began on a courthouse in 1848 which eventually became operational (although not until after Reconstruction). Throughout these years, various stores and businesses thrived within the smallcommunity; many which remain extant today such as J & W Barber Shop (founded 1865), Aiken Shirt Warehouse (1878), H&H Furniture Store (1901), Mrs White's Bakery (1899), Piggly Wiggly Markets (1901-2002) - all still open today! During the late 1800s through into the early 1900s there were multiple strikes by workers within Gautiere; one occurring in 1903 which led to increased tensions between locals and union members alike . However despite these incidents throughout those years little substantive change took place within the community overall due to its lack of resources or political power...until World War II began! Prior to World War II however much had changed within Mississippi due to changes brought about by war effort such as expanding education opportunities for blacks following passage of new civil rights legislation spearheaded by President Franklin D Roosevelt; this led to increased business activity among African Americans living throughout Jackson County including those residing within Gautiere itself! From 1941 onwards until 1962 when desegregation Laws went into effectwithin Mississippi -African American residents ofGauthier enjoyed unprecedented access to quality education opportunities denied them earlier within their state!! This period also coincided with an era where music Biharwas popularized throughout America via radio waves thus promoting racial integration thereby creating more opportunities for economic advancement for African Americans across entire Southern United States!! Gautier was a small town in Jackson County, Mississippi during the early 1800s. It is now part of Memphis, Tennessee. Gautier was founded in 1802 by Frenchmen Jean-Baptiste and Pierre Gautier. The Gautsiers were some of the first white people to live in what is now Memphis. They built a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River and called it "Gauthier." The town quickly became a center for cotton production. In 1824, John Brown led an attack on Gautierre's courthouse, injuring several residents before being killed by French forces. The town's reputation as a base of operations for hostile slave traders soon preceded it into history. In 1851, Gautieri voters passed a resolution condemning slavery and requesting that the United States government recognize their position as independence from Great Britain. However, this motion failed to receive support from the federal government. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded Jackson County with his army intent on destroying Mobile Bayou and its traffic of freed slaves; however, he was unsuccessful and retreated back into Tennessee across the bayou. By 1870, most of Gauciere had been destroyed by fire or abandonment due to cotton ginning capacity being developed at nearby Linwood plantations (now Poverty Row). A few years later, when Memphis began to grow rapidly as a result of industrialization in neighboring Alabama and Mississippi,[1] many African Americans moved Westward into piney woods outside Memphis for work in agriculture or construction crews responsible for building new churches or bridges across canals[2][3]. As black Jim Crow segregation intensified throughout much of Mississippi during this time,[4], most black families who had left their ancestral home moved westward into Memphis because they could not find good jobs there – even if they did have access to education opportunities.[5][6] Black Mississippians played an important role in advancing both economic development within city limits[7] and popular culture within segregated neighborhoods such as Englewood Gardens[8]. Through active participation in community organizations such as Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (MECZ) and Baptist Churches (BC), black Mississippians endeavored to create symbols of themselves apart fromgregated areas where cultural life intersected with social reality outside their homes.[9] This proactive engagement helped protect against assimilationism among young African American men who often found themselves isolated from white society after leaving rural counties behind during Reconstruction era efforts at social reformática (1865-1912).[10] Even though integrationist policies enacted over time made geographical mobility increasingly difficult for blacks living along state lines increasingly restricted opportunities for upward mobility,[11][12][13][14], MECZ preserved some degree of self-identity within integrated communities long after most other forms of integration had dissipated statewide.[15],[16]

After 1865, the town passed through several changes as people moved away or were forced out by various factors such as Reconstruction and World War II. The present day population of Gautierre is only around 100 people
