Reconstruction followed in America following the war; Greenville remained an all-black town until 1960 when it transitioned to white status with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In 1974, Greenville hosted the Miss Universe pageant; however, that event was moved to Miami Beach two years later due to concerns over possible racial unrest in Mississippi after Ford Motor Company withdrew its sponsorship of that year's contest.
