Grenada is home to the Grenada High School and Community College. The town was founded by English settlers in 1837. The first post office was established in 1841. In 1875, Grenada became an unincorporated community within Jackson County. The population grew rapidly during World War II, with many servicemen living and working in the community. After the war, Grenada experienced a decline in population until it regained its former levels by 2000. Today, Grenada remains an agricultural community with a significant presence of cotton and soybean production.

Grenada is a small Southwestern Caribbean island, located in the Gulf of Mexico. It is one of the Lesser Antilles, which are an archipelago of about 10 islands and 1,000 miles long. Grenada's capital and largest city is Saint John's. The population of Grenada was 811 in 2000, making it the least populous country in the Lesser Antilles. The first European to visit Grenada was Magellan on October 14th 1519 while he was sailing along the southern coast of Cuba. He had been searching for a way to reach Santiago de Cuba from Mexico City where he had been sent by King Ferdinand II Of Spain as part of an exploratory mission. Magellan named Grenada Isla after his Portuguese friend Gil Vicente de Noronha who had also visited that area some years earlier. In 1795, French explorer La Salle discovered and mapped much of what is now Louisiana during his expedition under Captain René-Robert Cavelier du Lac· . However, British exploration began much earlier with Abel Tasman’s voyage in 1642 when he sighted New Zealand from shoreline at present day Auckland Harbour. In 1798, Spanish pirate José Roldán captained a ship called San Francisco that became lost off the coast of Venezuela while looting Spanish ships near Margarita Island east of Caracas NL Venezuelan mainland on December 12th night; they were carrying treasure acquired during their previous raid on Cartagena Island NV two weeks earlier! In consequence, all hands were lost overboard with only Roldán and three other men remaining ashore to findering for days until finally sighting land about 50 miles due south west steering by means OF a starboard watch keeping track OF their position using quadrants inserted into charts prepared by Andrés Fernández Pointe (known today as Cabo Santa Cruz). As soon as they landed they cutlasses killed all but one manablo who managed TO swim ashore before being recaptured and hanged next day!! A place bearing his name still exists offshore Caracas NL today - La Guaira Atoll!
