Mccomb is a small town in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Mccomb was founded by refugees from the Ku Klux Klan in 1915. The post office was established in 1916 and named for John McComb, who fought in World War I as a sergeant with Company C, 2nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment. The first store in Mccombs was located on US 97 between 1922 and 1924. A second store opened on US 71 east of town in 1929 and a third store opened on Broadway west of town between 1951 and 1955. In 1967, Mccombs incorporated as a village. Incorporation provided for township-level government which was implemented that year when voters approved adding two more blocks to the village center including an elementary school and fire station. The current incarnation of Mccomb began to take shape after Katrina hit in 2005; reconstruction started immediately following the storm that destroyed many homes, businesses, churches and schools within one week's time along with leaving much of downtown completely uninhabitable save for some emergency shelters set up by local volunteers or state officials. The reconstruction effort has seen many residents return to their homes while also creating new businesses such as restaurant/cafeteria complexes along with additional housing developments such as the McKnight Homes project which will bring 3200 residents (almost half of whom are African American) to McCombs over the next 10 years or so replacing what used to be single family residences with six-story buildings designed specifically for this purpose

The city prospered until the American Civil War began in 1861. In 1865, McComb was Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest's capital of destruction during the Battle of Corinth. Despite this tragedy, McComb continued to grow and prosper into the 20th century. Today,McComb is a thriving community with a diverse population that enjoys a quality education and economy two-fold: as a manufacturing center for small businesses and as an important source of cultural expression for southern Mississippians.

Lee made his headquarters at McComb before retreating to Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1976, McCombsville became part of Jackson County when it was split off from Jackson County proper.
