Mccomb is a small town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,886 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mccomb was organized as a Village on April 20, 1881, by A.J. McCombs and Wm. Hogg from what is now Hancock County and Monroe County. The first postmaster was Jno. Fenton and the first storekeeper Matson & Sons grocery store opened in 1882 just south of present-day McComb on State Route 278 (now U.S Route 49). The first school in McComb was built in 1883 by Mrs. Clements with funds provided by Mr. Fenton and others who donated land for the school which became known as "Mason's School". In 1886 voters approved a $5 per capita assessment to support education within the village limits while also authorizing building of a church which Pastor John Sayers dedicated on February 14, 1889 (). In 1917 local farmers formed the cottonseed oil production cooperative called "Cottonland Oil" to produce high quality seedless cottonseed oil using stills instead of distillation methods then prevailing at that time which produced an unhealthylevel of fumes along with other harmful compounds during processing The cooperative closed down during WW2 due to lack of demand but reopened in 1951 after passage of the Pure Cotton Farming Act (). After many years struggling through tough times they were finally acquired by Gulf Coast Cotton Coop., Incorporated on December 5th, 2006 effective January 1st 2007 They are currently managed as part ofthe Gulf Coast Cotton Association

Mccomb, Mississippi is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mccomb was founded in 1829 by James McCombs and his family as a small village on the banks of the Pearl River. The town grew to include a post office and other businesses during the 1830s and 1840s as slave traders from neighboring Arkansas passed through the area looking for new slaves to purchase. In 1848, McCombs donated land for a public square in what is now McComb. The square became an important node in local trade and culture, hosting annual fairs that attracted many visitors from surrounding counties. By 1860, McCombs had become an important hub of cotton cultivation in eastern Hancock County and its associated towns. In 1865, following Confederate victory over Union forces at Vicksburg while under Federal occupation, all but one of Mississippi's thirty-six counties seceded from the Union; slavery continued throughout Reconstruction until it was abolished by federal law in 1865. During Reconstruction period (1865-1877), Mccomb experienced significant growth as African American citizens began to gain access to education and work opportunities beyond their homespun subsistence lifestyles. Businesses such as grocery stores and cotton warehouses were established here during this time period; these establishments helped create an ethnically diverse community that contributed to economic development within Hancock County during this era. By 1887, however, white residents had regained control of most aspects of life within Mccomb thanks to passage of the Public Education Amendments of 1888 which provided free public education for all citizens regardless of race or color. That same year saw another major milestone when railroad construction began passing through nearby Tupelo along with increased business opportunities for residents; this led to increased social mixing among different groups that had hitherto been isolated by race/ethnicity barriers throughout most parts of America during this time period
Mccomb was founded in 1821, and remained a small town until the 1950s. It became an important cotton community due to its location in the center of Mississippi, and its access to water resources. The town was also home to many plantations that produced cotton.
