All other ships were either discharged or mothballed there until they were reactivated later that year. In 1967-1968, the navy recommissionedUSS Enterprise as a helicopter carrier. This vessel served primarily as a training platform for Helicopter pilots before being decommissioned in 1980.Following her decommissioning she served as a floating dockyard unit until being abandoned near Memphis in 1997 when it was decided that she would no longer meet navigation requirements due to extensive corrosion throughout her hulls. Moss Point is a small town located in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan area. Moss Point is downstream from the Mississippi River on a fluvial plain, bordered by woods to the north and east and farmland to the south and west. A series of levees forms most of its eastern border; these have helped keep water out of many villages upstream while allowing development in Moss Point itself. The first white person to live in Moss Point was James Denton in 1854. Denton founded what would become known as Denton's Landing on the mouth of Chickasaw Bayou. In 1865, David Forney built a cabin on what is now State Street near where he now lives. By 1870, Moss Point had sprung up around Forney's cabin with 11 homes, two stores, and one Baptist church. By 1880 there were over 100 residents living in or near MossPoint; by 1990 this number had dwindled to about 50-60 people statewide due to various factors such as increased flooding from heavy rains that year or an influx of new immigrants from Mexico during that period who contributed significantly to growth in nearby Mobile City (then called Monrovia). In 1902 Samuel Morse established his wireless telegraphy station at what is now Tellechia Drive; it began service less than a mile away from where moss point currently sits. This helped stimulate much private enterprise within the community - beginning with early pioneer store owner John Pritchard's purchase of land just northwest of Tellechia Drive - which led to more housing development around Tellechia Drive and other areas east of Interstate Highway 55 (I-55) after World War II.
