Olive Branch is a city in Marshall County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 12,590 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The first coffee house in Olive Branch was built in 1836 by Isaac Page and his wife Sarah Page. In 1840, John C.Fench opened the first store in town. The future mayor of Olive Branch, Rev. James Haney Sr., was born in the town on November 3, 1851. In 1865-66, Gideon Witherspoon operated a millinery shop and cafe near present day Main Street and University Avenue; it closed shortly after he moved to Illinois because of debts owed to creditors from business operations here in Olive Branch. In 1869-70 Justus Bowers operated a grocery store at 15th and Vine Streets which also closed soon after he moved to Illinois; this building still stands today as part of Olive Branch's commercial district south of US Highway 90A/Stroudsburg Road intersection
Olive Branch is a town in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first inhabitants of Olive Branch were a group of Choctaw Indians who had lived there for many years before European exploration began in 1819. In 1821, Captain James Fenton arrived in what is now Harrison County and founded the town on land he purchased from the Chickasaw Nation. Fenton named it after his mother's birthplace—the village of Olives Creek near Rome, Italy—because he believed that olive trees grew best there. Fenton built a log cabin and store at the site where Olive Branch now stands, and within two years more than 100 farmers had arrived to take advantage of his new community. By 1830, Olive Branch consisted of a main street and several small buildings west of Main Street; three stores; a schoolhouse; a hospital; and a blacksmith shop. In 1832 settlers erected another log cabin on an existing site south of Main Street and called it "New Market." As cotton became one of America's most important exports during the 1830s, Olive Branch quickly became known as one of the leading plantations in Mississippi. By 1840 about 60 percent of all cultivated cotton in Mississippi was grown here; by 1860 nearly 90 percent had been produced in Harrison County alone. During this time period also came significant changes to Olive Branch: first its name was changed to New Market (from Old Market), then to Plantation Heights (in honor of local plantation owner John Coker), then finally to Huntingtown (in honor of Major General Ulysses S. Grant). In 1875 Hunterdon Covert sold New Market to Averill Harriman for $1 million dollars ($ when currency was worth much more). Harriman renamed it once again—this time simply "Olive Branch"—and used it as his flagship estate until his death in 1907. After Harriman's death no new housing developments were undertaken at or around Newmarket because such development would have interfered with ongoing production at olives plantations throughout the state.; however some historical marker still exist today marking where he built his original mansion – just outside present-day Olive Branch proper on State Route 912/Lovejoy Road NW which leads directly into his private gardens inside what is now known asHarriman Mansion National Historic Site

By 1830, roasts of whole bean coffees had become quite common on American menus! In 1814, General Andrew Jackson was elected president of the United States. He came to office with a mandate to end slavery in America. The issue of slavery and states' rights had been a long-standing one for Jackson. In Olive Branch, Mississippi, he faced many challenges as he attempted to implement his policies. The town was named after an olive tree that grew on land near present-day Olive Branch. The first settler in what is now Olive Branch was John Beale in 1796. Beale's land included parts of what is now Starkville and Oxford counties. In 1805, Mr. Hardin donated 100 acres (40 hectares) of land east of the Mississippi River to the state of Mississippi for free blacks who would be able to farm it and build homes there. In 1840, General John Custer discovered gold at Anadarko Creek in present-day Ada County, Oklahoma Territory. This discovery led to increased competition for slaves in the American South and began a mass migration of African Americans from their original homes into northcentral Missouri and Texas.[1] Many people travelled through Olive Branch on their way westward; some even built simple houses on small parcels of land they acquired along the way.[2] By 1850, however, most black residents in Northern Mississippi were no longer living near white settlers or working on farms; instead they lived mainly around Jacksonport or Meridian[3]. Many black Mississippians decided not to move away from their ancestral homes due to cultural reasons such as religious beliefs or concerns about possible violence or discrimination if they did so.[4] At this time, most white Mississippians considered any black resident living within three miles (5 kilometres) of them as "white".[5] When Andrew Johnson became president in 1868, he made progress towards equal treatment for both races by signing the Civil Rights Act Of 1871 into law. However, southern Democrats continued resistance until Lincoln’s election victory that year indicated that Reconstruction—the process through which former Confederate states were put back together under Union control—was stillborn within the Deep South[6]. During this time period there were sporadic attacks against African Americans throughout Ole Miss because it remained difficult for whites to integrate themselves into society without fear of retribution from local gangssters[7]. By 1870 only 4 percent of Ole Miss’ population consisted exclusivelyof African Americans[8]; but by 1930 this percentage had increasedto more than 50 percent[9]. Despite these difficulties,[10], many African Americans refused To Leave OleMiss during desegregation efforts waged by federal troops throughout 1970s culminating with passageof Title Vitellini Actin 1978 which ordered all public schools across Ole Miss integrated starting September 1st., 1976
