On March 1st of that year, these subordinate units were re-designated asthe 2nd Regiment Georgia National Guardsmen (2GNA). The 2GNA continued service until September 1863 when they weremustered out at Jonesboro Junction under orders from General Robert E Lee. After their honorable discharge they returned home to Starkville where they metamorphosed into what would become known as “The Old Guard” or “Starkville Troopers” (TG). When World War I began in 1914 many soldiers had volunteered to fight overseas but there wasn’t enough equipment or volunteers available to man every regiment equally as needed so some regiments formed up into battalions which then became brigades which later became divisions and eventually corps which are still around today! In 1917 when President Woodrow Wilson declared war on Germany America had entered into World War I along with Great Britain and France We mobilized our citizens for this war by ordering them to provide one month's worth of patriotic labor! More than 210000 Mississippians answered this call! After mobilization came training for 8 months with instruction starting on July 7th 1918 at Camp Polk near Savannah GA then continuing at Fort Knox KY until September 3rd When we left our barracks we had complete independence now it is called post WWI America!!! One thing you didn't learn during your training was how much work goes into maintaining an army let alone one that is fighting a major conflict while also providing security for our country! No wonder so many people enlisted right after mobilization happened...big money was being made

Starkville is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in Hancock County by population. The name of Starkville comes from Daniel Stark, who settled here in 1821. The first white person to settle in what is now Starkville was Daniel Stark in 1821. He started a small store and post office here. In 1824, he married Rachel White and they moved to an area near Corinth where they operated a larger store and had more children. They also served as county commissioners for Hancock County from 1828 to 1830. In 1839, the white people of Starkville asked for help with their crops because of severe weather conditions around the state of Mississippi. A group of men under the leadership of Captain John Sledge journeyed overland from Tennessee to help them and named themselves the "Mountain Men." They arrived on October 21st and began working on their farmsteads that winter before returning home on December 7th. Captain John Sledge's story has been told many times since his death in 1865 while serving as military governor of Mississippi during Reconstruction. In 1870, he donated land at present-day East Central State University which became one of the main community areas around Starkville after it closed down due to peacetime obligations during World War II (see below). Today East Central State University still bears his name though it no longer functions as a college or university; instead it is an important research institution within Gulf South Studies programs at Ole Miss University located adjacent to East Central State University.). From 1840 until 1860 there were only two stores open in downtown Starkville - one run by Captains Sledge and another run by Amos Morse - both closed due to lack of customers or competition from other businesses that opened up during this time period including a hotel, bakery, carpenter shop etc.. However things changed when Captain John Sledge decided to build himself a house on his farmstead just east of town square - this made him very influential within local politics and government throughout all four decades that followed... By 1860 there were six stores open along Main Street with several others operating out back such as: A&P grocery store (1860), Fenton's barbershop (1862), Drury Hotel (1863), Methodist Episcopal Church (1864) etc... This growth was helped along by Colonel Mose Bacon – who purchased most of downtown property including the current brick courthouse complex – which functioned as storage buildings/yards for various businesses until 1978 when it was completely destroyed by fire... By 1880 there were over fifty businesses active Downtown with between $100000-$200000 per year generated annually according to some recent studies! There was even an opera house built specifically for downtown business operations called Opera House TheatreGround Works Incorporated whichShowcasedOpera productions throughout 1900-1930albeitwithlimited success... Starkville was founded in 1819 by Capt. John Stark and his family. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of oil in nearby Tupelo, Mississippi. In 1831, the town incorporated and began trading with other towns in southeastern Mississippi. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked and burned Starkville; the loss caused the town to shrink in size but it continued to grow as a cotton-producing center until after World War II.
