The National Guard in Mississippi has a long and varied history. The first unit to be raised in Mississippi was the 3rd Regiment of Infantry, which moved from western Virginia to Jackson, Michigan on November 1, 1861. In 1865, the regiment was redesignated as the 9th Regiment of Infantry and then the 20th Regiment of Infantry. In 1868 it was re-designated as the 2nd Volunteer Cavalry and then again as the 9th Regiment of Infantry in 1875. In 1903, when Mississippi became a state, its National Guard unit became known as the 5th Brigade of infantry. It served until 1924 when it was disbanded under federal jurisdiction. After World War II, there were numerous changes within both state and military units in Mississippi due to population growth and changing needs. In 1951, elements of the Army's 4th Infantry Division arrived in Jackson with orders to become part of newly created United States Military District (USMD) No. 6 following decennial census data that showed an increased black population in Jackson County (now Hinds County). On May 15, 1952 elements of Company I/5/6 USMC began combat operations against communist insurgents at Khe Sanh Peninsula while Company K/5/6 USMC patrolled coastal areas northward from Pearl Harbor Naval Air Station southward into Texas duringOperation Enduring Freedom; this action is now considered one of America's earliest wartime deployments outside Continental United States shores by many historians1 . Numerous other companies were activated throughout MSD for various missions over ensuing years including anti-drug patrols; hostage rescue drills; humanitarian relief work; counterterrorism efforts during post-9/11 period2 . After several years active duty service ends with members discharged or transferred back home3 ; however Reserve components continue activation through designation as ceremonial units4 .

The Vicksburg National Guard was organized on December 15, 1863. The unit was raised from the Mississippi Militia and Volunteer Infantry Regiment No. 5. It served until it was disbanded on October 1, 1865.
Vicksburg is a city in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The population was 81,752 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Mississippi and the ninth most populous city in the United States after New York City and Los Angeles. This large metropolitan area has a GDP of $124 billion as of 2017. The site where Vicksburg now stands was first occupied by a Mississippian culture village named Pascagoula on April 6, 1795, according to French explorer La Salle. On December 12, 1810, General Andrew Jackson's forces under General Don Carlos Moore destroyed the village while they were besieging the fortifications of Pascagoula. In 1821-22, Vicksburg was sacked by Spanish soldiers under Brigadier General Antonio López de Santa Anna during his efforts to retake Mexico from Ulysses S Grant. Santa Anna's army lost 1,500 men and six cannons in this attack; Vicksburg had an estimated total population of 10,000 at the time. The city's significance diminished with its loss until it regained importance as an American military base following Mobile Bay Campaigns (1855-56) and III Corps operations against Confederate troops during bothades (1864). In 1865 it became capital of newly created Union Mississippi Territory following their victory over ConfederateGeneral Robert E Lee northeast of Memphis in what is known as the Battle of Champion Hills. During Reconstruction Vicksburg became one of five cities in Mississippi controlled by white Democrats rather than African Americans who were confined to rural areas outside town limits or relegated to low-level jobs within local shops and restaurants. White mayor John Young served from 1870 until he resigned due to allegations that he accepted bribes from businessmen interested in maintaining white Democratic control over Vicksburg through violence or patronage rackets; Mayor Beale also faced corruption charges but escaped indictment due to lack evidence). black mayor James Meeks served for two terms before being elected governor concurrent with his white predecessor’s term ending on January 3rd 1875 which resulted in Meeks becoming America’s first black statewide official when he was sworn into officeJanuary 4th 1865 In 1898–99 Confederates burned down part of downtown between brick buildings owned by whites and blacks; this incident helped create a perception among whites that “the Negroes are uncontrollable mobs bent upon mischief” which contributed greatly to disenchantment towards them throughout much of Reconstruction era On November 15th 1898 three members - JnoCurtis Wilburne USMC(later Rear Admiral), Willard Wigglesworth USN(USN Squadron Leader), Charles Goodyear founded Civil Air Patrol Base at Big Spring Field near present day Clarksville Alabama using surplus military equipment including four Fokker FF-19 multirole flying boats donated by Germany Later that year Alabama Governor George Wallace declared martial law becauseof economic unrest caused by combination blocking railwayroads with new cotton plantations

The first national guard units were organized in 1792 during the time when America was under French rule. At that time, the American Government lacked any form of military force to protect its citizens from France's threats. To provide some form of security for their citizens, Congress created two brigades of infantry and three regiments of artillery under the commandof General George Washington. In 1802, President Thomas Jefferson established a standing army by merging two separate militias into one unit-the 1st U.S Infantry Regiment (later renamed as 1st Ulysses S Grant’s Ulysses S Grant’s Army). This event marked the beginning of America’s long relationship with European nations and helped modernize her military forces while also providing them with needed resources. In 1804, Congress passed an act authorizing 5 regiments (later to become 10) battalion officers to serve as honor guards for Presidents James K Polk and Franklin D Roosevelt at balls given by their widow Sarah Eleanor Roosevelt (now Mrs Obama). When World War I began in 1914, most Americans were still utilizing horse-drawn wagons to get around because there was no way for them to fight on foot or even bring weapons with them into battle. To fill this void, President Woodrow Wilson authorized the creationof 4 cavalry brigades which would be used primarily in reconnaissance and traffic control duties across enemy lines while also performing other combat missions should war break out againt Germany or Austria-Hungary next door(this happened in 1918). It wasn't until 1921 that we started seeing tanks entering service which would change everything forever within our armed forces! That same year saw the first deployment ever of tanks into combat against Mexico during Operation Crossroads which resulted in over 100 Mexican casualties including 20 generals who surrendered at Geronimo's ranch! In 1924 Congress passed legislation authorizing 3 more divisions (later to become 8) regiment officers to serve as Honor Guards for President Calvin Coolidge at balls given by his wife Alice Pauline Harding along with First Lady Grace Coolidge(now Mrs Clinton). These events represented a significant step forward in how society viewed women being involved in society beyond just housewives! When World War II began it seemed like all hope was lost but then President Franklin D Roosevelt came along and made us all forget about what could have happened if he didn't come along! He authorized 6 new divisions (later expanded to 10) regiment officers under his command specifically so that we could once again fulfill our role as guardians for our nation! It wasn't until after 9/11/2001 when everything changed once again!!!!! With terrorist attacks happening all over the world we knew that something hadto change!!! So here we stand today...a nation full Of Love & Security!!!!!

Vicksburg was a strategically located city in Mississippi during the American Civil War. The city's location on the Mississippi River, as well as its easy access to cotton plantations and Union forces, made it an important strategic target for Confederate forces. Vicksburg was also a key stop on the Union supply route between Memphis and New York City. In 1862, Confederate General Robert E. Lee decided to attack Vicksburg after learning that Union General Ulysses S. Grant had moved his army from Chattanooga to relieve the Siege of Savannah. Lee's plan was to cross the river at Corinth and march through Vicksburg to Jackson, Tennessee before turning back and besieging Richmond. However, Confederate losses in battle ledLee to abandon his attack on Vicksburg in favor of a retreat across Arkansas River. Vicksburg remained under Rebel control until November 1864 when Union General John Custer arrived at the city with 1,500 cavalrymen and burned everything within sight including many stores of supplies and weapons used by Confederates in their unsuccessful siege of Petersburg Heights. This ended any prospects of Confederate retaliation against Ulysses S. Grant for allowing Confederate forces to be destroyed without severe punishment
