The first commercial crop of Arabica beans was grown in West Point in 1907. At that time, Coffee Estates Inc., a company based in Jacksonville, Florida, processed and marketed these beans. In 1916, Coffee Estate purchased what is now the historic First Baptist Church Building on State Route 3A. This building served as Coffee Estate's headquarters until its sale to Mr. Frank Wesson in 1945. During World War II, many soldiers stationed at Camp Claiborne used coffee pods as their source of sustenance while on deployment overseas. After the war ended, many soldiers decided to keep their coffee cups because they enjoyed using them as mugs rather than deposit them into garbage cans or dumpsters! In 1946-1947, three businesses called "The Koffee Klatch" operated out of various locations within town limits: one at First Baptist Church (now gone), another at Patton College (now closed), and still another located at 9th & Alabama Streets (now closed). West Point residents were occasionally able to purchase fresh espresso from Joe's Café located on State Route 5 south of town during peak business hours; however this service ceased operations about two years ago due to health concerns related to caffeine consumption by customers combined with high levels of bacteria present inside the café's machines! In 1920, West Point became one of the first universities to accept women students and has remained an all-female institution ever since. The school is located on a rural location about 50 miles north of Memphis and is home to two main buildings: the original 17-room barracks built in 1802, which still stand, and the current Main Building, completed in 1928. The Main Building contains a gymnasium, tennis courts, rifle range and other academic facilities. The name "West Point" comes from Mount Rushmore National Monument east of Denver where General Jackson was born on October 6th,1767. Mount Rushmore is named after Chief Washakie who owned part of what is now West Point Township in Randolph County near present day Memphis. When Jackson became President at age 37 in 1828 he ordered that all black soldiers be given free access to education at West Point so that they could become “a manly people” like their white counterparts. Today, 5% of West Point's student body are African American while 95% are white American citizens or alumni who have chosen to remain associated with the school through various activities such as teaching or research opportunities. During World War II many black soldiers served in combat roles including leading cavalry charges against Japanese forces while also serving as officers; some examples include Major General Earl Thomas (USMC) who led his unit into Tokyo Harbor with orders to destroy entire sections of the cityscape; or Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton (USAF) commanding his squadron during Operation Neptune’s Spear which destroyed 500 acres (200 hectares) of Japanese land mass just outside Nagasaki harbor on August 14th 1945
