The sailors from the USS Constitution donated money and materials to help build a new naval base in Ballwin. The first Naval Base was opened on Dec. 1, 1920 by Rear Admiral John J. Pershing and his wife Lady Jane FentonPershing. The Navy used the Naval Base for training and storage for ships until 1942 when it was moved to Jacksonville, Fla.} The Second World War brought much needed supplies and personnel to the ballwin area as well as new warships being built at the Naval Base. On Dec 5th 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in America entering World War II. American sailors were drafted into service during World War II and many were killed or injured in action including Commodore Harry S Truman who commanded USS Missouri (BB-63) when she sunk two Japanese destroyers off Hawaii on December 7th 1941} After Pearl Harbor Americans sailed into war with Germany which resulted in America joining European allies against Nazi Germany } In 1945 Japan surrendered and Japan became an American ally} Following Japan's surrender America conducted Operation: Overlord which saw Allied forces invade Normandy } As part ofOperation Overlord Sailors from USS Missouri (BB-63) sank two German ships off Normandy on June 6th 1944} This event is considered one of America's greatest military successes}. After WWII ended there was much debate over what should be done with the Naval Base which remained inactive for several years until it reopened in 1961 as NAS Ballwin}. The Navy now uses NAS Ballwin for training purposes as well as hosting various events such as Fleet Week}. In 1969 NAS Ballwin was renamed Joint Operations Center after Commander James E Halsey Jr who served as Commandant of US Coast Guard Academy] In 1992 Joint Operations Center was closed due to budget cuts but reopening occurred in 1994 under then Rear Admiral Rick Landon]} Currently Joint Operations Center provides command post capabilities for various services including Land Forces Aviation Commands] In 1938ballwin area residents raised money through a local committee to purchase their first navy ship USS ConstitutionCVA1} During World War IIBallvinians donated money, tools, parts and more to help rebuild our nation’s naval fleet.} After Pearl HarborAmerica had joined other allied nations against Nazi Germany so donations continued even after war ends;} In 1945Japan surrendered so our country gained Allies status; donations stopped again after that}} postwar period}}}

The Naval Reserve submarine USS Phelps was delivered to the United States Navy in 1944. The Phelps served as a training vessel for submariners until she was decommissioned in 1960. She was reactivated as USS Phelps (SSN-711) on 1 October 1966, and transferred to the Ballwin Naval Shipyard for conversion into a nuclear submarines. She completed her conversion on 20 December 1969, and joined the US Navy as USS Phelps (SSN-711).
Ballwin is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 9,693 at the 2010 census. Ballwin is the county seat of St. Francois County. It is located on the eastern edge of the Ozark Mountains and is bordered by Ballinger to the west, Blue Springs to the north, Dunklin to the east, and Independence to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Ballwin were French traders in 1763 who named it "Bouillon" after a village in France they had passed through on their way back from trading with Native Americans near present-day Springfield, Illinois. The area that would become Ballwin was part of Shawnee Nation territory until 1812 when it became part of Missouri Territory under Ulysses S. Grant as part of his negotiations for independence from Great Britain. In 1821, following Indian Removal Act of 1830 which removed all Native American nations from Missouri excepting those living in Kansas and Oklahoma, land around present-day Ballwin was sold off and developed into farms and townships including what are today's neighborhoods of Roll Call Road NE and Mechanics Lane SE. Whenwestern Missouri became an official US state in 1861, parts of southeastern St Francois County including what are now Ballwin were included within Jefferson County; however most development took place outside of town limits until well after World War II whenBallvin central business district was built out as a result of its proximity to available defense industry jobs during World War II." Ballwin, Missouri is a town in Jefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Joplin metropolitan area. The first settler in present-day Ballwin was James H. Crawford and his family who arrived in 1838. The community was named for General Andrew Jackson because he had visited it while on his way to lead the army against Native American resistance in 1819. After the death of President James K. Polk in 1844, General Ulysses S. Grant took office and ordered all military personnel removed from the state including those stationed at Fort Scott which left Ballwin with no defenders until September 1862 when Confederate general Robert E Lee invaded and destroyed much of the fortifications leaving only a few buildings standing today as part of what is now known as "Jackson's Corner." In 1865 Union general George Meade captured and burned down Ballwin after its residents refused to take up arms against their government under terms of surrender or evacuation. For this act of defiance Union forces were eventually rewarded with characteristic Union generosity by allowing local citizens to purchase 640 acres (2 square miles) around town for $2 per acre once they agreed not to fight any longer; this land later became part of Springfield Township. Ballwin experienced some success during World War II as it played key roles in both production agriculture and munitions manufacturing although many losses occurred due to lack of adequate armor opposition and enemy air raids throughout most of the conflict which caused heavy loss sustained by civilians as well as soldiers alike including numerous civilian casualties such as one hundred house burnings that took place on December 7th 1941 during an aerial bombardment called Operation Torch which targeted strategic targets within Tunisia Democratic Republic (now Libya). This event remains one of history's largest military disasters ever suffered by civilians even though parts Of Ballwin such as Maplewood Cemetery still remain dedicated to military fatalities from that period today making it possible for families living there today to lay flowers next year on behalf of their loved ones lost during wartime- an experience many people find valuable given how warfare has changed over time certainly more so than ever before especially given our current form of globalized terrorism where violence often comes from places we never thought possible
The Ballwin area was first settled by the Potawatomi people in the 17th century. In 1813, General Andrew Jackson and his forces invaded Missouri and burned all of the Indian villages in this region. This caused a large populationodus of the Indians and many of these early settlements were abandoned. The town of Ballwin was founded by Captain James Wilkinson in 1824 as a trading post on the White River. It became an important agricultural center during the late 19th century, and was home to one of the largest cotton plantations in central Missouri. However, BALLWIN declined following World War I and later experienced rapid growth during the postwar years due to oil exploration and production in nearby Kansas City. Today, Ballwin is a small town with a strong local culture that remains important to its residents.
