It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area and is bordered by Lee County to the north, Doniphan County to the east, Dunkirk Township to the south and Wabash County to the west. In 1841, Daniel Boone came into possession of 640 acres (248 hectares) comprising present day Festus Township from Wabash County on behalf of his brother Jesse Boone. Daniel built a home thereon which he called "The Hermitage". He also began cultivating corn and milking cows near present day Parkville while conducting various research projects related to fur trading with Native Americans located along the Great Lakes region. In 1844, Elijah Hicks purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) comprising present day Festus Township from Daniel Boone for $600 dollars cash plus ten shares of stock or one dollar per acre payable over a period of five years starting March 4th following maturity without interest or dividend payment; this purchase included all future Townships within its boundaries except those bounded by Doniphan County on the south side and Lee County on the north side including Present Day Parkville Township which would be acquired by Lee County only six years later when it became part of neighboring St Joseph Parish during efforts to expand county boundaries throughout Missouri due largely to an increasing population within St Joseph Parish resulting from agitation initiated by territorial governor Samuel Jealous . It should be noted that these purchases were not made immediately contiguous with each other but rather were spread out over time as part of larger purchases intended to create an overall forested area within Jackson Purchase No 2 much like what has transpired with subsequent acquisitions across town since then such as those involving Interstate 64 just beyond Parkville today making Feston very close indeedto both adjacent towns Warsaw and Independence whereupon current Feston Rd actually begins
