The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is the only college of its kind in the United States and one of the few institutions of higher education where you can earn a commission as a naval officer. The USNA was founded on September 16, 1809 by Commodore John P. Morgan with the goal of educating officers for service in the U.S. Navy during the Revolutionary War and into the present day. Throughout its history, USNA has been known for awarding medals and gifts to navy personnel from all over America, as well as giving scholarships to deserving members of society. In 1862, USNA bestowed an honorary degree on Admiral Alfred Thayer Mahan who had helped lead American forces against Confederate forces at Shiloh. In 1906, USNA awarded Commodore George Dewey an honorary degree for his role in leading American forces during World War I. Additionally, in 1957 USNA bestowed an honorary degree on Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz for his contributions to Naval Warfare during World War II. Today, USNA remains committed to providing quality education and training that will benefit America's sailors and marines both now and into the future.

Florissant is a town in St.Charles County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Florissant is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area and is bordered by Independence to the south and east, Overland Park to the north, and Shawnee Mission to the west. The town began as a farming community on the banks of the Missouri River in 1839. In 1870, Florissant became an incorporated town after being designated as such by a state legislature act. The first mayor of Florissant was Wm. Hodge. According to the 2010 census, Florissant has a total area of , all land. As of 2000, there were 1,521 people living in Florissant Township: 627 households out of which 34% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53% were married couples living together, 9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31% were non-families. Of all households 15% were made up of individuals and 5% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average household size was 2½ and the average family size was 3½. There are now only 17 families left in Florissants township after it lost its zoning approval from city officials due to lack of development over time

Florissant was founded on the bank of the Missouri River in 1836 by Captain James Biddle and his family. It became a city on April 30, 1907. The first post office in Florissant was established in 1837. In 1840, Captain Biddle built a gristmill here that still operates today as the oldest operational mill in Missouri. The city's economy has been based largely on agriculture for most of its history; however, it has also experienced some growth within the printing and publishing industry over time. The Florissant Gazette was founded here in 1839 and continues to be published today. Other major businesses include Stonington Brewing Company and HealthSouth Medical Center which are both located within walking distance of each other in downtown Florissant. As of 2017, there are six high schools (12th-16th grades) within close proximity to each other as well as four middle schools (5th-8th grades).
