Kennett is a small town in southwest Missouri, United States. The population was 1,268 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kennett is named after George Kennett, a Major General in the Union army during the American Civil War. The first settler in what would become Kennett was Isaac Hempstead in 1827. He and his brother-in-law James Hager moved from Virginia to start a claim on land that would later be called Hempstead Township. The Hagers were joined by two other men - John White and Abraham Butler - in 1830 and began building cabins on what would become known as their farmstead. The first post office was established here in 1836, and the township was organized on February 14, 1837 under the name of Clinton Township." The community grew rapidly during this time as settlers arrived from all over Missouri looking for land to homestead or purchase near Springfield. By 1840 there were 204 residents living in Clinton Township; by 1860 this had increased to 914 residents within its borders alone! By 1870 it had reached 1,064 inhabitants and remained relatively stable through many expansions until it experienced significant growth again during World War II when it swelled to 2,331 residents! During that time numerous homes were built and businesses opened up including a grocery store (1940), three banks (1945), four churches (1945-1950) - one of which still stands today (Church of God In Christ), two schools (1910-1920) and more than 20 businesses! During most of its history Kennett has been an agricultural community with large percentages of farms focused around raising corn, hay, cattle or soybeans. However beginning around 1970 some farmers turned to production of grapes for winemaking; however these are currently only minor contributors to local economic activity. Today much of the commercial business life revolves around farming services such as tending crops or providing access to roads necessary for transportation across rural areas like this one.

Kennett, Missouri is a small town in southwestern Missouri that was settled in the mid-19th century. The town was named for General James Kennett, who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as a U.S. Senator from Missouri. The current town was founded on a site that first been occupied by a Shawnee Indian tribe and then by French colonists in the early 19th century. The Town of Kennett was laid out on November 4, 1857, when elements of the Kansas Volunteers banded together to fight against Mexican forces marching through what is now western Kansas into Texas. In 1871, the townsite became part of Harper County when it was created from parts of Clay and Perry counties. By 1906, Kennett had population of 10 people and consisted mostly of farmers who raised livestock and grew crops. In 1928, Kennett absorbed the neighboring community of Weston which had gone through a similar transformation since its founding two decades earlier. Development in Weston led to increased population and development within Kennett itself; by 2006, Kennet boasted an estimated 30 residents living primarily off commercial agriculture or ranching activities In recent years there has been much discussion about how to preserve local history within Kennett’s borders In 2006 there were plans for an historical marker at “The Rocks” which is located near junction Interstate 35W with Highway 54 (a short distance north). Plans are currently being developed for another historical marker located just east of town on State Highway 521 known as “The Old House” which features evidence from the early 1800s indicating that this structure likely served as a courthouse or jail during this time period One way that Kennett may be able to maintain its past more effectively is by hosting events specifically designed to promote local history such as genealogical meetings or pie cookouts organized around specific periods or topics Additionally, special educational programs have been established for students interested in learning about various aspects of local history including excavation excavations carried out at nearby sites along I-35W or other pieces of cultural heritage withinKennette

The town grew rapidly during the early days of the American Civil War because of its strategic location on the Mississippi River. When the war ended, Kennett's economy declined because so many soldiers had to leave for other causes.
