The Chamber of Commerce responded by donating land and formed the Liberty Air Force Base Foundation in 1947. The War Department then donated $2 million to make the project happen. The first plane to come out of the new base was an American F4U Corsair, which arrived on July 20, 1948.

The city was named after James K. In 1821, as part of an effort to secure land grants for west side Illinois farmers during the Harrison Purchase period, Jefferson City donated 5 square miles (13 km²) east of downtown to become Liberty Circuit Land Grant Country Surveyor Joseph Gage for $1 per acre (0.40 hectares). Liberty, Missouri is a small town located in Jackson County, Missouri. The community was founded in 1836 by the merger of two settlements, Liberty and Garden City. The community was named after the English philosopher John Locke who lived in London at the time. In 1855, it became a county seat and remains so today. The city of Liberty began as a stop on the Santa Fe Trail. It grew rapidly because of its natural resources: coal, oil shale, and saltpeter. By 1860, Liberty had 4 churches and 50 businesses. The population reached 10,000 by 1870 but decreased to 6,000 by 1880 due to numerous economic hardships caused by railroad construction adjacent to the town. In 1885, local citizens organized themselves into a fire brigade to help protect their homes from accidental fires that occurred during summer heat waves. This was one of the earliest examples of grass-roots democracy in America. From 1865 until 1876, Liberty was under martial law because of an armed insurrection against United States rule led by James Mclntyre (1815-1903). After Mclntyre's successful rebellion was suppressed with heavy Ulysses S Grant military casualties at Monterrey Creek bridge on July 12th 1865 (the Battle of Grand Junction), President Andrew Johnson appointed General Curtis LeMay as Superintendent of Police for all Federal Territories including Missouri; this decision marked an epochal change in previous practice which allowed Governors sole authority over law enforcement within their respective jurisdictions without any direction from Washington D.C.–a power vacuum that often lead to violence or chaos on local levels For many years after Monterrey Creek Bridge incident nooses were hung from trees next to both bridges leading into downtownLiberty because General LeMay felt that retribution should be meted out only unto those who had actually committed treason against the Union In 1886 Mayor Lamar Wicker introduced a resolution calling for repeal of martial law laws and restoring civil rights currentlyutopped under military jurisdiction; however this resolution failed to gain any traction among residents . After more than 40 years without meaningful reform or action from either side following Mclntyre’s Rebellion most residents finally realized that there was nothing left they could do about it when General John Taney took over as superintendent in 1912 and ordered an endowments program called “The New Deal” which aimed to improve living conditions for locals while still maintaining control over political affairs In 1939 some citizens successfully lobbied for passage of Act No., 939 which established School Unity Day as a day set aside annually throughout America commemorating American suppression efforts againstCommunism during World War II patriotism being expressed through education rather than propaganda
