Airforce gift history in St. Charles, Missouri began with the creation of the United States Air Force in 1947. The USAF was founded as a result of the Truman Executive Order 969 which established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The USAF was responsible for providing airlift to support American efforts in World War II and during the Cold War. In 1949, General Curtis LeMay became Commanding General of USAAF and directed development of strategic bombing forces. With these new capabilities, Luftwaffe pilots were able to fly over Nazi Germany undetected on multiple occasions during World War II. The Cold War provided an opportunity for USAAF bombers to conduct operations against targets within Russia that were not possible from distances across Europe or Asia. In response to this new need, the USAF developed what is known as “the atomic age” offensive bomber force which was designed to deliver nuclear weapons deep into Russian territory using Boeing 707s and Douglas DC-8s. This effort resulted in numerous losses for the Luftwaffe but also helped contribute towards German surrender at war’s end in 1945. Following World War II, many Air Force generals believed that it was time for a major renovation of the organization structure and command structure within the USAF. This led to what is called “the great transformation” which took place between 1948 and 1954. During this time, General Hoyt Vandenberg assumed command of United States Forces Europe (USFE) while other Generals such as James Hillman took charge of Continental Commands respectively; these changes would have a significant impact on military strategy throughout NATO during its early years following victory in NATO’s first conflict against Warsaw Pact members –Operation Overlord). The primary goal of United States Forces Europe (USFE) was therefore to provide air cover for Allied ground forces operating within member states during Operation Overlord; however, by 1951 this had changed significantly as it became clear that USFE could not effectively provide both air cover and logistical support due to its limited resources including aircraft types available for both missions at any one time(a problem exacerbated by RAF Bomber Command having superiority over all other Allied fighter forces). It was eventually decided that troops should be withdrawn from France completely whilst remaining behind under British control with USFE acting as an auxillarycommando force; this arrangement proved unsuccessful and ultimately resulted in French independence from Britain following Operation Market Garden (see also European Union). Withdrawal from France finally happened effective 15 May 1955 after two years of planning with 4th Air Division comprising 1st Bombardment Wing flying Boeing B-29 Superfortresses operated by 359th Troop Carrier Wing equipped with Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters; 2nd Bombardment Wing flew F-86 Sabres operated by 509th Fighter Squadron equipped with North American A-15E Skyraiders) . After successfully completing several months training at Mather AFB California before taking off on 21 October 1955 they arrived at their final destination –Strasbourg Airport where they would remain until disbanding on 15 May 1956! St. Charles, Missouri is a town in Kane County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,584 at the 2010 census. The community was founded by General James K. Polk in 1836 to support the fur trade on the Great Lakes region. St. Charles became a post office in 1846 and then a town in 1850. In 1857 it became an independent city and had its own school district until it merged with neighboring Ferguson on May 1, 1966. On September 25, 2014, St. Charles received its second municipal charter from Missouri Governor Jay Nixon which granted it more powers and increased its voting electorate to 7,500 residents from 4,000 residents as of the 2013 Census). The city's first mayor was Jerald Senter (1947-1950). The original mission of St. Charles was to provide transportation for traders between the Great Lakes region and Illinois during the early 1840s whenifestations of American fur buyers were increasing throughout North America due to new discoveries of land west of Montreal (the Louisiana Purchase). From this beginning until around 1870 when railroads took over most commercial transportation within Canada and across midwestern America,[1] goods were transported by water or by stagecoach from eastern Canada through what is now Wisconsin (then part of France) delivering them directly to northern Illinois where they were sold or bartered for goods elsewhere in North America before being turned into lumber or cloth products for export back east via Chicago or New York City markets[2][3] before finally reaching southern Illinois near Saint Louis where they were reassembled into finished items such as furniture or textiles before being dispatched back home again down the river corridor leading to points north including Superior Michigan; Detroit; Erie; Buffalo; Niagara Falls; Lake Ontario etc., although various routes were used including stages known as "Canal Bougainville" running along present day US 2nd Street south from Springfield to Altona Landing on Georgian Bay while additional routes ran parallel but shorter distances such as Canals Of The West located just east of Hannibal (now I-55) linking Watertown (on current day US 65) with East Moline[4] becoming known as "The Illini Canal" due mainly to plant growth there during this time period that reached upriver past Green Bay[5][6][7] eventually terminating at what is now Milwaukee Avenue within today's suburbs of Chicago after passing through Waukesha County near Germantown/Waukegan Township before continuing along present day I-94/I-290/I-90W via Kenosha County becoming known as "The Old World Route" followed by "The New World Route" until arriving at Nauvoo Landing on DuPage River – later renamed Chicago – where wagons would be unloaded and passengers would disembark local boats transporting goods upriver further reaching new settlements such as Quincy along present day I-155E becoming known as "TheTrumpet Canal"[8][9] while other smaller waterways like The Des Plaines River became known simply as THE ROAD.[10] Today much infrastructure still remains dating back over 200 years including streets named for major figures associated with early St.Charles history like General Polk himself who died in 1865 at age 83,[11], First Lady Julia Child who lived here from 1896 until her death in 2005,[12][13][14], Mayor Jerald Senter who served from 1947 until 1950,[15],[16],[17], Drury Lane Theater founder James Kellar who donated land for development here in 1948,[18], John Pritzker Sr.'s familyowned Palmer Paper Company which manufactured paper products here starting out with flour bags prior to moving production downstream towards South Shore Drive near Oak Park prior Toebridge AFB)[19],[20]; downtownSaintCharles' revitalization project spearheaded by Mayor Jerry Wehner which began following his election victory on November 5th 2009 culminating with ribbon cutting ceremonies on January 16th 2013 followed by ribbon cutting ceremonies inside old Antoine Furniture Warehouse District #2 adjacentto former Armour & Co./NHL Ice Arena complex hosting both Hockey games featuring Minnesota Wild vs Nashville Predators[21]; arena also hosts music events annually including concerts by artists like Metallica [22], Faith Hill [23],[24]), Justin Timberlake [25],[26], Jay Leno [27],[28]'s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon [29]'s Late Show Starring David Letterman etcetera.; major attractions available year round include golf courses(St Andrews Club - opened 1927), country clubs(Benton Hills Country Club - opened 1959), amusement park(Garland Park - opened 1961), zip code 63118 provides access allowing visitors easy access all around town center providing things such as restaurants, shopping malls(Centerville Mall -opened 1997), hotels(Ramada Inn & Suites Saint Charles -2009 opening)[30]. These weapons became very important later in WWII as Allied forces fought against Nazi Germany and Japan. American fighter pilots flew more missions than any other nation during WWII without being shot down or captured alive thanks to advances in technology such as jet aviation and radar detection systems. AAM technology played an important role in helping America win World War II while also creating some of our most famous enemies including Adolf Hitler’s Luftwaffe and Joseph Stalin’s Red Army
