Fresh roasted coffee has been a part of the St. Charles community for over 100 years. Coffee beans are ground and roasted in small batches on site, allowing the farmers to focus on their crops and not on distribution. The first coffee shop in St. Charles was opened by Dr. John Hargrave in 1892. The business was located at 7th and York Streets and served only local customers. In 1907, the first Starbucks opened in St.Charles, selling cup of Joe’s coffee for $1 per cup. In 1912, Mrs. Waddell started her own roasting business at 127 Sennett Street which she operated until her death in 1990. Today, Mrs. Waddell’s name is still remembered as one of the pioneer women entrepreneurs who started small businesses inStCordovaMd., including Starbucks and other popular contemporary businesses such as Burger King and KFC

In 1892, a young man named Horace K. Coffee started roasting coffee in a small town on the edge of St. Charles, Missouri. The first roastings were made from beans that had been roasted by his father and grandfather. In 1951, K. Coffee opened his own coffee shop in the heart of the city and continued to make and sell his coffee until he sold it all in 1978.
St. Charles, Missouri (sometimes spelled St.Charles) is a city in and the county seat of Warren County, Missouri, United States. The population was 31,532 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first town in what would become Warren County was called "New Salem" on the north side of the Arkansas River. A post office was established there in 1857, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1868, a group of settlers from Illinois founded a town called Palestine on the south side of the river; however, this community failed to gain permanent residents and closed its doors by 1872. In 1875, an act was passed by Congress which designated land within present-dayWarren County as being part of Kansas City Township for purposes of municipal government; this act set aside two square miles (5 km2) along the river for St. Charles Township’s establishment as a city Limits – one block east of downtown Kansas City and one block west of I-70/I-435W (the future site of Oriole Park). The township’s boundaries were finalized in 1893 when it merged with Jackson Township to form Warren County.[1] According to the 2010 census, St. Charles has a total area of , all land.[2] As of 2000,[3] it had a population densityof .[4] The racial makeup[5][6]

In 1821, three friends, Francis Scott Key, Daniel Carroll and James K. Polk founded St. Charles County, Missouri. The town of St. Charles was named in honor of the saint who is considered to be the patron saint of Europe and America. The town's first post office was established on May 10, 1825. In 1836, the townsite of Saint Charles was platted and a hotel built in its downtown area by Colonel John Sibley as a tourist attraction for visitors to the then-new United States Virgin Islands (now Puerto Rico). St.Charles experienced great growth after becoming part of the Union during the American Civil War because many soldiers stationed there were needed in nearby western Missouri cities such as Kansas City and Independence. Many factories were constructed here including an armament factory that produced artillery shells for Union forces; a foundry that made cannons; a flour mill; a cotton gin; and several stores including one that became known as "The Cotton Exchange". In 1865, when Missouri became an all-Union state, St.Charles lost its independent status but kept its name since it lay within Confederate territory at the time (Saint Louis County remained Confederate until 1861). After Missouri joined the Union in1865, most businesses closed down or moved away due to competition from larger eastern states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania which had become free following the war. However, some businesses did keep open such as The Cotton Exchange which continued to operate until 1923 when it closed its doors for good due to prohibition laws passed in America at that time. Today much of what once stood around Saint Charles has been torn down or replaced with new buildings including hotels/resorts complexes such as The Renaissance Saint Charles Resort & Casino which opened in 2001 nearsthe old city square now known as Alvarado Street); two shopping malls - One located on I-35 just north of downtown Saint Charles between Ulysses Road and First Street South near Interstate 670; housing developments like Hawthorne Manor Estates off Haworth Road east of downtownSaintCharlesand Park Meadows west of downtown while also being developed by developer Dick DeVos along Tomahawk Trail adjacent to Bluejacket Bayou park off Old US 66 exit 422}; baseball stadiums like Busch Stadium on I-70 southwest of townhome stadium across from arena district southwest side); Baptist churches (such as Our Lady Of Loretto Church located northeast cornerof Main Street dead end opposite alley leading into bus stop lot where passengers usedto transfer onto buses going out into Confederate Territory) etc... All these changes have created vast amounts of change over time right next door to what was once one small mining community with close proximity to two major metropolitan areas...
The first white settler in St. Charles was James Robertson, who arrived in 1805. The town was founded as a trading post on the route of the Missouri and Kansas Railway. In 1820, it became a city and was named for General Anthony Wayne, an American general who had fought in the Mexican-American War.
