The St. Charles National Guard is a unit of the United States Armed Forces and one of the few national guard units in Missouri. The National Guard was established in 1792 as the first militia in the state of Missouri. The unit was reactivated on November 8, 1861, when Missouri seceded from the United States. The St.Charles National Guard has fought in every U.S. War Between 1812 and 1865, except for the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1957, as part of a program to increase military recruitment statewide, General James E Carnahan announced that all St.Charles Guardsmen would be eligible for military training regardless of their age or veteran status at that time! This initiative lead to an influx of new Guardsmen into local service who had never served before and gave rise to what is now known as “the Carnahan Generation” within the Guard Unit itself! Since its inception, the St. Charles National Guard has seen many changes both within and outside of its own ranks due to various events and challenges faced by our state such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (2005), earthquakes (2006 & 2011), political unrest (2008-2012) and natural disasters (2013 & 2018). However, no change could be more definitive than those brought about by Hurricane Harvey which devastated much of Texas on August 25th 2017; resultant mass layoffs among Guardsmen followed less than two weeks later on September 1st when it became clear that sections of Houston were too damaged or dangerous to rebuild without significant loss of life or civilian infrastructure damage! These moves signaled an important shift within not only our organization but also our culture – one that emphasizes readiness day in and day out for any contingency we may face! While there are countless stories about how individual Guardsmen have responded during times ranging from crisis response to traditional holiday entertaining, this paper will focus specifically on gifts given from members thereof over the years - some unique examples include a golf cart fleet made up entirely of donated carts dating back to 2001 (!), a “Carnahan Christmas” ornament set featuring patches including those worn by both James E Carnahan himself (& wife Lois Ann) during his term as Governor from 1978-1981 as well as past Chiefs Of Staff/ Lieutenants General/Adjutant Generals/Major generals etc., several dozen personalized mugs ($25 each + USPS Priority shipping) honoring fallen comrades posthumously throughout 2017 alone – all proceeds benefiting Veterans Affairs Memorial Hospital located just blocks away from where numerous Guardsmen lost their lives while serving their country!!

St. Charles, Missouri is a town in Macon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Branson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in this area was James Krieger who arrived in 1827. He platted what would become St. Charles on a small knoll overlooking the present day city of Springfield. A post office called Krieger City was established in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. A large number of settlers came to this area during the 1830s and 1840s following the Gold Rush which began in Central California that year and soon spread throughout America due to its new discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill on Trinity River near Sacramento. Many of these people were attracted to land that had been recently opened for cultivation by Major General Lewis Cass from his command at Fort Worth Barracks east of St Louis (now Peoria). In 1846, when Missouri became a state, most of what is now Macon County including St. Charles northward lay within Kansas Territory which then included much of Illinois Territory (thus making it one side effect of Kansas' admission into the Union as a state). However, because SaintCharles Township lay within Macon County proper and notKansas Territory as some had feared it might be after Kansas' admission, many residents chose to remain there rather than move away from their homes they had built over many years while living within Kansas Territory limits all told; some 8% or so of StCharles' population left between 1840-1848 when Kansas came into being though their departure did not always coincide with that increase in population growth outside the old boundaries delineated by slavery and map boundaries apportioned according to pro-slavery sentiment among Territorial citizens during those years! While white settlement increased rapidly outside territorial borders during this time period - especially along both eastern and western banks of theMissouri River - slaveholding Midwesterners continued to purchase land inside Maryland’s Potomac District where slaveowners could own slaves only if they resided adjacent thereto on opposite sides thereof - an arrangement also known as “borderland ownership” whereby nonslaveholding landowners leased or rented out portions or entire farms bordering Slave states such as Kentucky on the one side; Arkansas on another; Tennessee acrossriver lying behind Tennessee’s line; West Virginia lying just beyond Virginia State lines – much like today’s Agricultural Park region located near Richmond Heights/Petersburgtown off Interstate 44 – despite growing evidence demonstrating widespread freedom & safety for African Americans residing therein amidst increasing pressure from Northern abolitionists? These Virginians may have felt more comfortable about allowing blacks access only insofar as those individuals fulfilled certain qualifications such as owning property valued at $50 per acre or less & having free labor assigned themable acres through periodic auctioning off Negro parcels since such lot sizes were often too large for whites even to responsibly grip? If free people could be found possessing / living upon lands adjoining slave states whose soil had been long leached by enslaved Africans prior thereto thereby ensuring continued production & perpetuation Of said operations – why couldn't black farmers similarly enjoy limited access permitting them reasonable compensation for holding onto productive agricultural land adjacent their home communities while employed therein? While white residents may have taken pride in their accomplishments while developing our beautiful cityscape now known around town simply because they took place within territorial bounds rather than beyond them – understanding those boundary changes has helped make us all better neighbors today!
