The population peaked at around 10,000 in 1950 but began decline thereafter due to numerous factors including loss of jobs in nearby cities and changes in family values which discouraged integration into local communities. The town’s fortunes began to turnaround in the early 1990s when entrepreneur Donny Sheppard bought several acres of land south of town and commenced development of what would become known as Sheppard Place – a mix of housing, business parks, a school and other public amenities designed specifically for residents living near downtown Saint Charlesville until they could be annexed into the city limits in 1997). This new strategy allowed St.Charlesto continue growing albeit at a slower pace than initially planned; today it has an estimated population of 7,500 people (the latest estimate) making it one of Missouri’s fastest-growing municipalities (and one that is not limited by jurisdictional boundaries). Despite these challenges and some recent setbacks such as gentrification efforts spearheaded by university professors working within Sheppard Place), overall things seem stabilizing for St._ Charles_Mo._ In 2007 Mayor Bob Ferguson announced plans for redevelopment totaling $120 million which would see much needed job creation across all aspects of life including retail, manufacturing/servicessector employment growth along with new housing units for senior citizens and others experiencing long term physical or emotional incapacity or distress from economic conditions outside their control; this plan was successfully ratified by voters later that year Although much more needs still need to be done such as racial diversity among workforce representation etc., overall progress seems steady
