The Webb City, Missouri National Guard was established on January 20, 1903. It originally consisted of twenty-four enlisted men and one officer. The unit served in the Missouri Volunteer Militia until 1912 when it was redesignated the Webb City Municipal Guard. On May 24, 1917, the Municipal Guard was again redesignated as the Webb City National Guard and it served in World War I as a part of the United States Expeditionary Force. In 1919, the National Guard was reorganized into brigades and companies and it continued to serve in World War II as a component of Army Corp of Engineers Battalions C-41 through C-46. The battalion was disbanded on September 30, 1946. Since its establishment, the Webb City National Guards have deployments to every major conflict in our country including both World Wars I and II; Korea; Vietnam; Desert Storm; Katrina; Operation Iraqi Freedom; Hurricane Katrina; Bosnia/Herzegovina (1999-2001); Kosovo (2002-2004). The Webb City National Guards are currently deployed to support Homeland Security operations following recent events such as President Trump’s Executive Order 13768 which requires all federal agencies to cooperate with Homeland Security Investigations within sixty days.
The national guard is a military reserve force in the United States. There are more than 2 million members of the national guard, and they are divided into rifle and artillery companies, battalions, brigades, and squadrons. They can be called up for duty as soon as there’s an emergency or if someone falls sick in the military. The guardsmen have many tasks and responsibilities that vary depending on their company or battalion. For example, some Guardsmen help with disaster relief efforts after natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes; others may be assigned to provide security at public events or protect critical infrastructure like bridges or dams. National Guard members can also serve in other branches of the military if needed, but most Guardsmen serve for one year before returning home to their unit.
The Webb City, Missouri National Guard was organized on November 15, 1892. The first post to be established in the town of Webb City was at the Post Office. On January 1, 1893, the National Guard Bureau authorized the organization of a battalion of Guardsmen from Fenton County. The Battalion was organized on February 14th and named for General George A. Smith, Commandant of the Missouri State Militia at that time. On May 3rd, 1893, it became apparent that there would not be enough Guardsmen to support allof the requests for volunteers coming in from surrounding counties. Consequently, it was decided to disband the Battalion and create a new one specifically for Webb City. This new battalion was called the Webb City Guardsmen and it served until 1897 when it disbanded again because of funding limitations. In 1899-1901 an additional battalion (the Fort Dodge Guards) was formed in Fort Dodge as part of an Army program known as “Athletic Development Corps” which aimed to increase military effectiveness by providing young men with physical education and camping experiences outside of town while also teaching them discipline skills necessary for life in garrison duty. As part of this program Fort Dodge also equipped both battalions with rifles and artillery pieces which they used during World War I when their home county did not have any troops available to contribute. After World War I ended most Ft Dodge Guards men returned home but a few remained behind to help form what is now known as The Webb City Volunteer Fire Department

Webb City, Missouri is a small city in the Ozarks region of central Missouri. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1854 by General James Webb and his family. In 1870, it became a town. In 1887, it became a village and in 1907, an incorporated municipality. The name of Webb City is taken from General James Webb Sr.'s father-in-law's homestead on the main street in town.The first store in Webb City was built on Main Street by Jno. Hays & Bros., which operated from 1854 to 1865. A post office called Webb City was established in 1856, and remained in operation until it closed in 1861 due to financial difficulties. In 1870, when general James Webb moved his family to the area he named Webb City after himself and other founders of that town including John Franks (1820-1881), Wm Hays (1795-1868), Amos Day (1796-1873), Gershom Hill (1798-1858) and Nathaniel Banks (1800-1883). The first school building erected here was the only one erected anywhere within this limits during that time - it being constructed of logs with dimensions exactly similar to those used for other pioneer buildings still standing today throughout much of northcentral Missouri In 1907, as part of a larger program for reorganizing government under new management following World War I, Webb City became an incorporated municipality with a total population of 471 people The community experienced rapid growth during World War II as soldiers marched through its streets carrying equipment and supplies for various military installations around the area During most of the postwar period there have been few changes to the character or conditions of life here . . . though some residents have engaged actively in local politics since then
Webb City was founded in 1871 by John Webb and his family. The city developed around the Webb-Fenton Railroad, which connected it to St. Louis. In 1910, the city was renamed after Samuel J. Webb, a congressman from Missouri.
