In the early 1800s, a small community in Nebraska called Beatrice was known for its artisan coffee. The beans were roasted and ground by local farmers, who would then sell their coffee to other businesses and individuals. Over time, the coffee industry in Beatrice grew and changed significantly. The first espresso machine was made in 1923. In the early 1940s, the Kapps bought a large farm near Beatrice and began to produce fresh roasted coffee. In 1951 they opened a café which served both Seattle Coffee Connection (SCC)Oats and Dutch-made roasts of their own. In the late 1990s, the business started to decline due to financial reasons and closed in 2001. However, over time it reopened as an independent store called 'Beatrice Cafe' with its original owners still serving up delicious roasted coffee every day!
Beatrice, Nebraska is a small town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 5,249 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kearney County. Beatrice is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Beatrice Historical Society preserves materials from the pioneer era through to current times including photographs and documents from the 1870s and 1880s. There are also several museums in Beatrice including the Kearney County Museum and History which focuses on history with an emphasis on agriculture and local economy; and Northwestern Nebraska State University's College of Fine Arts which offers art classes throughout the year as well as a number of exhibits featuring local artist work. Beatrice was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1869 after they left Nauvoo, Illinois. They named their new settlement after General James K. Polk who had been president when they were driven out of Nauvoo for supporting slavery. As time passed, other groups started to move into Beatrice including Germans, Scandinavians, Irishmen (most notably Paddy Kelly), Mormons and Americans from different parts of central Canada who came to help build railroads and mines in what would become known as "the Great Sioux War." Eventually most or all of these newcomers died out or moved away during Prohibition or World War II (when many people took advantage of available jobs). Today few reminders remain from this early period except for some old houses still standing along US Highway 24 just north of town that were built c1910-1920 under contract with then-Mayor John Jonson Jr.. Construction stopped abruptly around 1925 when a tornado destroyed much property west side Of town leaving only two extant buildings remaining today: one dating back to 1865 as a blacksmith shop/canned fruit business called 'The Fords' before being converted into apartments in 1951; while another original house dating back to 1875 as a log cabin has since been demolished but remains visible off US highway 24 across from where it once stood... Today there are no structures south side of town other than a couple homes that may have been used for storage during prohibition years until recently when someone removed most if not all evidence inside those homes; finally only one building remaining east side - now home to an agricultural museum - built c1920 by Mrs Lillian Atherton who purchased land east side OF town from John Jonson Sr./ prior owner/ developer Hyrum Smithson
