By 1912, Belgians had established a branch office in Bellevue so that they could better sell their beans to American consumers. This growth helped drive down prices across international markets while also creating new opportunities for local businesses to get involved in the industry. Today, Bellevue remains an important node within the global caffeine industry as it houses some of the best bean roasters in North America and Europe. Bellevue is a city in Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 18,539 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Douglas County after Omaha and Lincoln. Bellevue is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs–Bellevue metropolitan area. The city was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1854 as a small farming community named Fergus Falls on the edge of what is now Bellevue Cemetery. In 1907 Bellevue obtained its current name from then-mayor John A. Symington who recommended it be called Bellevue because "it had been so long since anything had happened here worth calling Bellevue." In 1909, Bellevue became one of the first American cities to issue its own paper currency, making it one of only two cities in America at that time to do so (the other being Philadelphia). In 1924 Bellevue passed an ordinance prescribing that all children must attend school from 6 a.m.–12 p.m., instead of going to home for lunch as then customary. This ordinance remains law today and has helped make BellevUE one of the most diverse cities in Nebraska with over 100 languages spoken fluently within close proximity! In 1951, construction began on what would become Nebraska's first Interstate highway and today's I-80 corridor; this roadway served as a major artery through town and continues to play an important role in local life today! As well as playing host to many annual events such as steak cookoffs and music festivals throughout the year – all while keeping its historic architecture intact – BellevUE remains an iconic destination for locals and tourists alike!
Bellevue is a city in and the county seat of Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 27,813 as of the 2010 census. Bellevue is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs, NE-IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is home to the Bellevue School District and the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department. It was founded on December 6, 1881 by John Prentice and his family following their departure from Fort Donelson, Tennessee. In 1912 it became a city when Douglas County was created out of Chilton Territory. On July 1, 1916 Bellevue became an independent municipality when it ratified a charter granted by the Nebraska Legislature. After years of growth and progressivism under Mayor Harry Wirths (1926-1930), economic decline led to annexation by Omaha in 1957; however, this annexation did not result in any real change to Bellevue's political or economic status quo until 1978 when Douglas County passed an ordinance annexing Bellevue's unincorporated areas into its jurisdiction. In fact, some of the earliest evidence for coffee cultivation in Africa can be found in ancient Rome. The first African coffee beans were grown in Ethiopia, and it was here that the Ethiopian Blue Flag Coffee was first awarded in 1931. The country's unique flavor profile has been a mainstay in the industry ever since, and it's now also one of the world's leading producers of premium espresso. While other countries have contributed to this legacy as well (including Indonesia), Ethiopia remains at the forefront when it comes to grinding quality, roasting consistency, and brewing techniques.
In 1961, two Americans named Bob Peet and John Hart founded the first coffee shop in Seattle. The couple started out selling pre-packaged coffee beans, but soon began to import their own beans from Africa. They quickly became known as one of the most promising new coffee companies in town. As time passed, Peet and Hart developed their own unique brewing method that produced a more flavorful cup of coffee than anything else available at the time. In 1990, they opened their first restaurant in Seattle's Pioneer Square district and continued to refine their methods until they finally achieved perfection in 2004 when they opened their very own roastery and cafe in downtown Seattle.
