From the time of its inception in 1868, the La Vista Volunteer Infantry was one of the most important organizations in Nebraska. The unit was created as a response to the American Civil War and fought in all three wars that followed. In 1865, after helping to put down a Union uprising at Omaha, Nebraska, the volunteer regiment left for Texas to fight in the war there. After being disbanded there, it traveled back east and joined up with General George Buell's army on July 4th, 1886 when he invaded Mexico. For its heroic role during this conflict, the La Vista Volunteers were awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor. In 1919-1920, following World War I's end, Nebraska again saw action when members of the 9th Infantry Battalion served in France under General John Pershing as part of America's entry into World War II. The battalion was once again disbanded but reactivated as an infantry company within 2nd Battalion (Nebraska) Regiment Armory Company (2ND AC) on October 26th 1945 while stationed at Fort Riley military base outside Of Topeka Kansas. On November 8th 1945 2ND AC moved from Ft Riley to Camp Chase Army Airfield near Columbus Oklahoma and began operations providing air support for Operation Crossroads which aimed to stop Japanese forces invading Midwestern United States. Following World War II ended with Japan's surrender, La Vista Volunteer Infantry was reactivated on September 1st 1946 as part of Department of Defense National Guard Bureau Reserve Division No.(1). It continued serving through both Korean and Vietnam Wars untilactivated on September 15th 1990 by Director USAF Colonel James Eikenberry effective upon taking command from Major General William Halsey Jr who had been appointed commanding general per order 013 dated August 30 1990 replacing Major General Jeffrey Pamphlett who had been relieved due to his death only two months earlier at age 67 years old having served since November 1985. Withdrawal from active duty status took place on October 15th 1990 effective upon deactivation order number 12-90-02 issued by then Deputy Director USAF BrigadierGeneral Donald L Cox pursuant to Headquarters USAF Directive 5332/88 entitled "Organization and Equipment Requirements for National Guard Units activated or mobilized pursuant To Executive Order 12638" The battalion emblem is a blue shield charged with gold scroll inscribed "LA VISTA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT" inside a red field entablature azure edged with white scrollsreading "VICTORIA."

La Vista is a small town in Chenango County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,575 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs, Nebraska Metropolitan Statistical Area. La Vista is located on the West Side of the county and has a downtown area with several businesses and two public schools. The village had been organized as a post office in 1878 but its first resident was George Wagoner who arrived in 1879 from Missouri. The town's name comes from pioneer John A. LaVista who came to the region in 1868 after arriving in Council Bluffs, Iowa Territory during the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1865. LaVista purchased land where he built his $10 per acre rancho (land grant) called "Las Vegas". He named his home "Lavenport" after one of his daughters and also erected a cross on an outcrop near modern day Stateline as a marker for travelers on their way to Las Vegas market or saleyards situated about three miles (5 km) east of present day La Vista Cemetery. In 1880, A&W Fruits & Produce started up along current US Highway 60 northeast of town limits; it remains one of La Vista's most important commercial enterprises today. In 1902 incorporation was granted by the state authorities to form an incorporated village; however, due to lack of residents and property donations over ensuing years la vista dwindled until 1940 when it had only 5 residents On October 1st 1870 Isaac Jaffe settled on 640 acres (220 ha) southwest cornerof what is now Brushy Creek Road and Anna Street NE inside present day boundaries of la vista He named this site "Jafferville" for himself and his wife Sarah Jane which means ' Settlement Spot' or ' landing place'. The Town plat shows that there were 9 houses/roads total with lots measuring 6 rods x 12 rod each with 3 STORYs high when surveyed... later surveys show some additional houses - 16roads total but 7 have since been removed or destroyed byreek/paved roads while another 8 Roads are still extant...present day boundaries were set by surveyor H C Whitefield following Indian removal from this location

La Vista was founded in 1868 by citizens of the town of Dodge City, Kansas. The town was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who died in a cavalry charge at the Battle of Little Bighorn. La Vista grew rapidly during its early years, and by 1870 had a population of 150. It became a city in 1902. The first post office in La Vista was opened in 1872. In 1916, La Vista won the distinction of becoming Nebraska's "largest city" when it surpassed Omaha to become the state's most populous city. The arrival of Interstate 80 created new opportunities for businesses and growth within La Vista, but also brought problems such as crime and pollution that continue to this day.
