The Lincoln, Nebraska Coast Guard was founded in 1912. The service is responsible for the maritime safety and security of the state’s coastline. In 1916, the Coast Guard moved to its current location on the Omaha Beach waterfront. Today, the Lincoln coast guard has a complement of more than 350 men and women who provideshore protection and coastal rescue services. In 1976, Governor John Ashcroft dedicated a new USCG facility at Omaha Beach for use by the Lincoln coast guard. The building is now home to both the Coast Guard Academy and various law enforcement units. On October 1st, 1978, President Jimmy Carter presented then-Lincoln Mayor Gerald Ford with a gift basketcontaining gifts from local businesses and citizens in support of the coast guard. The history of gifts to the Lincoln coast guard can be traced back to 1912 when two businessmen donated money towards creating a shore patrol service in response to concerns about unchecked fishing practices off Nebraska's coastline. Over time, donations were accepted from individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout Nebraska interested in helping keep our coastline safe for everyone including fishermen, boaters, swimmers and joggers alike!

The Lincoln, Nebraska Coast Guard Station was the first coast guard station on the Great Lakes. It was built in 1851 and served as an barracks for the officers of the American Revolution. In 1919, it became the Lincoln Coast Guard Station #1. The station was destroyed by a fire in 1951 and rebuilt with new materials. The station was renamed Lincoln Coast Guard Station #2 in 1957 and again in 1992. In 1994, it became part of the National Park Service and remains open to visitors today.
Lincoln, Nebraska is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska and the county seat of Lincoln County. The population was 78,552 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Nebraska and one of its most populous cities by population. The city is located on the Missouri River, about halfway between Omaha and Topeka, Kansas. The first permanent settler in what would become Lincoln was James K. Polk in 1853; he founded a trading post on the confluence of the Rivers Platte and Niobrara (now known as Kearney) near what is now downtown Lincoln. The town grew quickly due to trade with nearby Dodge City and Kansas City for goods brought overland from Iowa and Illinois during the early years of this region's settlement. In 1874, when Congress passed an act to create new counties within Nebraska, Lincoln became part of Douglas County; it continued to be its county seat until 1888 when it was moved to Nebraskan Falls after that community became too small to support both local government functions and a large commercial center). In 1916, during World War I, Abraham Lincoln served as General-in-Chief of American Expeditionary Forces fighting in Europe; he donated land along the river for use as military training grounds which eventually became known as Camp Douglas (later West Point). When hostilities ended two years later, much of what had been donated remained undeveloped but subsequent presidents have used parts or all of it for various purposes including Army Air Corps Training Station Noam Chomsky Field (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord), Camp Robinson (later Fort Harrison) and Land Grant University at Springfield (now Wellesley College). On July 6, 1921, President Warren G Harding signed into law Public Law 191–191 which created Lincoln National Memorial Park located adjacent to Battle Creek Dam on Lake Michigan just upstream from where Ford's Ferry crosses Big Sioux River near present day Waukegan Heights neighborhood on South Side Road east of I-94/I-380 junction southwesterly border with Emerson Township northwesterly border with Douglas County line northwest from park boundaries; memorials include: "Comprehensive Listing" – title indicates that property has been placed under federal jurisdiction by statute as per title 17 United States Code § 6084(a); "Lincoln Monument" – designates structure dedication ceremonies which are held every year on April 12th concurrently with 4th Infantry Regiment Association Annual Meeting & BBQ event hosted by Park Service at old POW/MIA Museum adjacent thereto On October 14th commemorating 50 Years since Mr. George Pullman's inspirational gift to America via Centennial Exhibition at Chicago Worlds Fairgrounds we held our 3rd annual fundraiser golf tournament benefiting Great Ormond Street Hospitality Trust http://www.gopullmanfoundationfundraiserlaurenpaul2012.com Proceeds went directly back into hospital care! Below are some examples of how their donations have helped make our coasts more secure: - 1851: The Coast Guard founded its own service in order to provide emergency assistance to coastal communities. - 1922: The Coast Guard established a coast guard station at Key West, Florida in order to provide security for the Keys. - 1942: The Coast Guard contributed $5,000 towards the development of Miami Beach as a resort town. - 1959: The Coast Guard established its first air station on Long Island in order to support search and rescue operations during hurricanes. - 1966: The Coast Guards contributed $10,000 towards the construction of New York Citys Idlewild Airport. - 1978: The Coast Guard donated a patrol boat to California in order to help with water rescues and beach cleanups during winter season. - 1985: The Coast Guards donated a helicopter squadron and four helicopters in order to be able to respond quickly and effectively when requested by law enforcement officials. - 1994: The Coast Guards donated an icebreaker – USCGC Polar Pioneer – which was used during Hurricane Hugo as part of Operation IceBridge. - 1997: The Coast Guards gifted two patrol boats – USCGC Independence and USCGC John F Kennedy – in orderto provide coastal defense against pirate attacks off the coast of California
