After the war ended, Soldier's Home Farm continued operations as an agricultural research station until it closed down in 1966*. He also served two terms as governor before becoming president due to his opposition to slavery during the Civil War. During his time as president he signed several important bills including Medicare and Medicaid which made healthcare more affordable for Americans across America; he also helped negotiate peace treaties with various Native American tribes which ended centuries of conflict between them and white settlers.
