The Great Depression led to a decline in business activity in ScottsblUFF until World War II revived some economic interest with production of military materiel including tanks, planes, and artillery pieces. Afterward, industrial growth resumed with advances in technology such as plastics and electronic products which has powered continued growth since then . The current shopping mall built near downtown replaced an earlier Sears store which closed down after years of economic stagnation during the late 1990s/early 2000s; however this redevelopment appears not have had much impact on job loss or overall economic vibrancy within town limits despite being touted as such by city officials (see below).
