The Scottsbluff Army Ammunition Plant was founded in 1899 as the Nebraska National Guard Armory. It served as a storage and armory for the Nebraska National Guard through World War I, and during the war it produced munitions for the United States Army. The plant was closed in 1945, but reopened in 1951 as the University of Nebraska Armory. In 1979, it became part of the Nebraska State Military Museum, and in 1992 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1949, an act authorizing purchases of artillery shell supplies from foreign countries was passed by Congress. The Act called for President Truman to submit a report on how best to obtain these goods from abroad. A committee composed of representatives from various agencies was set up to review this proposal and make recommendations regarding how best to purchase munitions from other nations. After careful consideration, it was decided that the ammunition plant would be best suited to become a source for this type OF procurement. In 1957, new regulations were put into effect governing military equipment requirements. These regulations specified that all armor must be able to resist damage from small arms fire and grenade launchers firing high-explosive rounds. This represented a significant change from previous years when such armor could not be readily equipped with such devices because they were not then available commercially or through government procurements! As a result of these new regulations, although there had been some discussion about building an armory specifically for this purpose since at least 1944 (!), no definitive plans had been made until finally being ordered following reports submitted by General Dynamics Corporation after World War II! The decision to build an armory specifically for munitions production followed ultimately out of necessity due primarily to advances in technology which made large quantities (and even standard-issue) artillery shells much more difficult or impossible To produce commercially than before! It is interesting that despite numerous changes over time Armories have always been used primarily within their original functions: Storage/Ammunition Plant (1949-2001), University of Nebraska Armory (1981-1992), & now State Military Museum (1991-1992).

As well as being an important transportation artery for goods moving between Lincoln County and other parts of Nebraska, US Highway 29A has also become known for its diverse attractions: from shopping centers filled with modern retail products to historic buildings dating back to pioneer times. One such attraction is Rucker Park - located just down the street from downtown - which features various amusement park rides as well as several sports fields where locals play baseball and basketball year-round!
