In 1974, the KFC opened at 4th & Main Streets which is still open today with several updated features including an adult beverage store beneath the restaurant section (now known as Regal). In 1980, Starbucks opened up shop at 9th & Elm Streets in downtown ScottsblUFF following a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $10,000 towards their construction costs. That same year saw Lodge Coffee Open up shop at 406 W 6th St., just steps away from where Starbucks now stands. In 1984, Java Junction opened its doors at 408 N First Street which became one ofScottsbluffle’s most popular tourist destinations during its heyday. java junction continued serving good quality caffeine drinks until 2001 when it closed down due to financial difficulties related to global economic changes such as the dot-com bubble burst and then 9/11 terrorist attacks; however Java Junction left a lasting Legacy within ScottsBluffy’s Coffee Scene with numerous fond memories of their delicious java drinks! It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs–Leavenworth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first human being to live in Scottsbluff was John McCoy who settled there in 1879. A post office called Scottsbluff was established in 1885, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1925. The town name likely originated with William Scott who purchased land around the present day town site on July 6, 1859 from Jesse Snelling for $5 per acre (1¢ per foot). Scott's purchase included the east line of present-day Kearney County. He named his new settlement "Scottsbluff" after his family's home country of Scotland. In 1907, construction began on a dam across the Missouri River at Scottsbluff which would create Lake Nebo.
