Scottsbluff, Nebraska is a small town in southwestern Nebraska. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scottsbluff Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town straddles the border of Scott County and Rush County and lies on the east bank of the Missouri River. The first permanent settler in Scottsbluff was George Birdseye in 1854. Birdseye built a log cabin on what is now Main Street, which he named for his friend and neighbor, James Millington Scotty. In 1856, David Fetterman settled in what is now northeast corner of Main Street and Illinois Avenue. He built a log cabin named Fetterman's Store on this site. In 1860, John Latham erected a simple wooden store next to his farmstead on southeast corner of Main Street and Illinois Avenue. Latham named his store "Latham's." A post office called Scottsbluff had been established in 1859 by Prentice Goldsmith with two initial letters, but it was discontinued in 1861 because it was too far from other settlements. In 1865, Jno Ewing founded an agricultural community near present-day Scottsbluff called Enterprise; Ewing purchased land from several pioneer settlers there including Samuel Hutton and Daniel Boone Haslam Jr.. In 1870 Anthony Webster founded Webster City about west of today'sScottsblUFF In 1871 Wm Davenport started homesteading along main street north of where he lived today between 4th & 5th Streets On July 12th 1870 Jasper Cushing died suddenly while traveling down main street past his home west to get some water from Spring Creek near present day Union Pacific Railroad tracks just south of Center Stree

Scottsbluff, Nebraska is a small town in Scott County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 5,822 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area. Scottsbluff is located on the Missouri River and forms part of the east-central portion of Omaha. The town was founded in 1879 by Alexander Forbes and his wife Catharine Whitman Forbes. The Forbeses named their settlement after Scottish rock fortress known as Scottsburgh (now Perth). They also built a sawmill and gristmill there. In 1883, Scotsbluff became a county seat of Scott County and remained so until 1907 when it became one of thirteen towns in Lincoln County. In 1913, Scotsbluff's post office closed because of financial difficulty caused by World War I and then by prohibitionism during Prohibition. However, local residents quickly organized to reopen the post office and serve again from 1917 to 1919 under the name "Scottsboro". On October 1st 1917, Scotsbliffites voted to form a new city government which would be separate from Lincoln City although still components of that larger municipality. That same year Scotts bluffs first high school opened its doors as Douglass High School with grades 9th through 12th grades students attending classes on North Broadway Avenue near what is now Main Street NW in downtown Scottsboro; they were able to do this despite not yet having a school building or any other infrastructure for educational purposes other than classroom space on North Broadway Avenue itself! On May 15th 1920 an act providing for statehood for Nebraska was passed in Congress by Ulysses S Grant and signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson; Nebraska became an American state on April 14th 1923 following ratification via referendum conducted within two days following passage of that bill! With this boost from federal recognition came increased development opportunities for both locals and visitors alike including such things as industry becoming more plentiful with increased access to transportation available thanks to Interstate highways 100 & 71 (+9 miles) being completed just prior thereto; tourism began rapidly growing within those years leading many people today believing that Scottsboro actually did experience some degree or level economic prosperity all throughout its brief existence even aside from WWI/ Prohibition related issues! At present time (#2018), much has changed since then including big investments(+$350M+) made into town center redevelopment (+3 buildings), recent arrival(+5 businesses) along main street NE making it one busy street once again... much like old days when folks would walk up & down mainStreet everyday 😍
