The United States Coast Guard was established in 1795 as a result of the French and Indian War. The first American coast guard stations were located in New York and Rhode Island. By 1800, there were over 130 coast guard stations across the country. The Coast Guard was created under the provisions of the National Defense Act of 1862 which gave authority to keep open trade with all nations without discrimination on the grounds of religion, color, or gender. In 1916, Congress passed what is known as the Coast Guard Appropriations Act which authorized an additional $5 million for coast guard programs. This money was used to build new ships, purchase equipment, and expand training opportunities for coastal defense personnel. In 1940, President Franklin D Roosevelt signed into law the Public Works Administration which provided funds for construction projects including shoreline defenses and other infrastructure needs such as airports and seaports. The Coast Guard became one of 21 Federal agencies that joined the Department of Defense upon its establishment in 1947. Since its inception, the Coast Guard has played a significant role in safeguarding America’s coasts from harm both at home and abroad. Today, there are over 5500 uniformed personnel working within our missions to protect Americans from collisions with vessels or lifesavers when they need it most; whether it’s rescuing people who have been overboard or helping send food parcels back to their families during natural disasters like hurricanes Katrina or Sandy; tragedies like those that struck Bermuda in 2002 or Haiti after Hurricane Mitch; or just making sure that everyone is safe when traveling through ports-of-entry on their way to/from work or school! If you're feeling particularly inspired, there's also the option of making a donation to the Coast Guard Foundation. This organization helps provide necessary equipment and resources to our military and law enforcement officers working on the front line.

The Omaha, Nebraska coast guard has been providing service to the community for over a century. The honorary members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary are volunteers who donate their time and services. This year's gift is a commemorative plaque honoring Coast Guard Auxiliary members who have passed away in 2018.

South Sioux City, Nebraska is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska and the county seat of Kimball County. The population was 17,835 at the 2010 census, making it the 8th-largest city in Nebraska. It lies on the Platte River near its confluence with Missouri River and is served by South Sioux City International Airport. The area now known as South Sioux City was inhabited by the Ojasomi people before European settlement began in 1846. The first white settler to arrive in what is now South Sioux City was James Atherton, who purchased land from the Kiowa people on July 4, 1846. Atherton named his new town after General George Armstrong Custer, leader of American forces during World War II who had died in battle earlier that year. On January 24, 1865, Indians destroyed all but three buildings in what is now downtown South Sioux City when they attacked settlers fleeing a military engagement nearby; this event is also celebrated as Downtown Omaha's "Day of Destruction." In 1870s and 1880s many businesses were built in downtown South Sioux City: Joplin Paper Mill (1870), Armour Rubber Company (1881), Goudreau's grocery store (1889), Wagon Wheel Brewery (1914), First National Bank (1915). In 1915 ground was broken for America's first airmail service between Omaha and Chicago using an old buffalo roundel found at Wagon Wheel Brewery; this service became known as "The Great Air Mail Ride". During World War II many companies moved out of downtown South Sioux City due to bombing raids; these include American Typewriter Corporation (1943), Dodge Tire & Rubber Co.(1945–1950) and Alcoa Aluminum Works(1948). In 1949 United States Steel Corporation moved into their new plant north of downtown which remains one of America's largest steel production facilities today. In 1960s much Progressivism built up around downtown including John Lennon’s home “Shebeen” which still stands today within easy walking distance to most business areas; however much has since been demolished or replaced with high-rise office blocks erected during neoliberalism era such as Energy Transfer Partners' Dakota Access Pipeline project across from Shebeen which will cause significant harm to local environment if completed

The Coast Guard has been a part of America since the early 1800s. The first Coast Guardsmen were recruited from among local fishermen to help protect the coastlines of New England and California. In 1919, the Coast Guard was created as an all-volunteer organization. The original missions of the Coast Guard were to provide humanitarian assistance, enforce fishing regulations, and maintain ocean safety. In 1967, the Coast Guard began providing air traffic control over US airspace in order to ensure safe passage for commercial airlines. In 1990, the Coast Guard enacted its first Task Force 13 program which aimed to reduce alcohol abuse on U.S coasts by emphasizing education and prevention programs. In 2001, the Coast Guard established its own aviation unit which became known as Helicopter Maritime Traffic Control Squadron (HCTCS). That same year, HCTCS became responsible for patrolling 1 million acres of coastline across America including both coastal waters and open ocean areas. Today, the Coast Guard remains one ofAmerica's most important public servant organizations with a variety of responsibilities including: homeland security; law enforcement; maritime transport; fisheries protection; search and rescue; environmental stewardship;and disaster relief. South Sioux City, Nebraska is one of the poorest and most rural towns in the United States. The town was founded in 1858 by Mormons who were fleeing persecution in Utah. The Mormon settlers did not have the resources to develop their land, so they turned to farming. South Sioux City became a busy commercial center after it was granted city status in 1903. It experienced rapid growth during World War II as America's largest munitions manufacturing center. However, since the late 1990s, South Sioux City has been experiencing a significant decline in population and economic activity. The town was originally named Kimball after Brigham Young's brother-in-law, George Kimball. In 1859, Mormon pioneers discovered gold near what is now South Sioux City and decided to establish the settlement here. A few years later, on July 26, 1861, Brigham Young issued an order directing all Mormons living east of Missouri River to move westward into Nebraska Territory because of increasing persecution from LDS members in Utah. On December 15th of that year (1861), about 2200 Mormons left for Nebraska under leadership of Brigham Young himself and started construction on what would become South Sioux City Hall and other early infrastructure. By 1863 the town had grown sufficiently that it petitioned for city status; its application was approved on February 14th of that year (1863). In 1903, when Omaha became an independent city with its own government, South Sioux City became part of Omaha's municipal district; however it continued to be known as "Kimball." In 1971–72 both cities merged into one municipality called "South Sioux City" with a population of over 100K residents at its peak."Nebraska History Online: History & Heritage -HistoryLink"> The downtown area today still retains many Lambert-Henderson House relics which date back to this time period including two blacksmith shops/buildings dating back to 1871–72 After declining economic activity throughout much of the 1990s caused by technological development changes such as NAFTA being ratified without any major impact on local businesses or jobs outside Omaha ([1]) English speaking citizens began moving out West while older residents vacated their homes altogether seeking opportunities elsewhere due primarily to natural disaster events such as floods (1928), Dust Bowl (> 1930) or pandemics (.1953).
