In 1914, the Nevada National Guard was created when the state of Nevada seceded from the United States. The guard was first organized into companies and then battalions. From its inception, the Nevada National Guard has been a tribute to America and its people. The guard has served in many conflicts throughout history, including World War II and the Vietnam War. In 1987, the Nevada legislature passed a bill that designated the national guard as an official State agency. Today, the Nevada National Guard is one of the most popular organizations in Nevada with members statewide. The history of national guard gift giving began during World War I when American troops arrived in Reno to help fight against Germany. Sgt. John Sappington donated his 1918 M1911 pistol to support American troops on behalf of General Pershing’s army. After World War I ended, many soldiers returned home with new rifles and handguns they had acquired in Europe or Asia. As part of DoD’s restructured organization plan called FORTRAN IV there was no military department within DOD which oversaw individual armories across country so each armory became responsible for stocking only inventory specific to that armory/division within DOD called “ Tactical Armories” This leftWeapon Arming Forces Command without any weapons######meanwhileNational Guard Troops stationed overseas continued receiving firearms from Tactical Armories not subject to muster or maintenance by WAC commands During this time frame also various other agencies such as Coast Artillery Corps (CAC), Signal Corps (SC) - both before being merged into DoD- began selling firearms directly to private citizens through agents known as civilian confiscators who would deal directly with local law enforcement authorities storing confiscated firearms at various locations around town until placed back into circulation under NGB control One example is notable where upon request from local law enforcement authorities NGB transferred title & possession of firearm from locally seized car wrecker vehicle towed off duty by SC while parked on side street awaiting auction & destruction permit violation conviction & $2K damages award against owner simply because personal belongings inside were not moved out prior to sale This type Of activity occurred throughoutietywhereuponthe authority retained ownershipof firearm even though property owner remained unaware All this occurred despite multiple requests by law enforcement officials etc... Fernley is a small town located in Lyon County, Nevada. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno–Sparks metropolitan area. Fernley is home to the Kern County Museum and History, which opened in 1992. The first settlers in Fernley were farmers who arrived in 1879. They named their land "Fernley" after James Fenton Fernald, an Americanizer who had settled in California. In 1907, the United States government granted a homesteading license to John Bigham and his wife Lillie Hargrave. They founded the Bigham-Hargrave Ranch and farmstead on land that now includes much of what stands today within Fernley limits. Fernley was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1912. It became a state capital on January 1, 1913 when it was selected for that purpose by Nevada's governor Carson Young. On October 6 of that year, President Woodrow Wilson designated Fernley as the new site for both US military headquarters and US Postal Service Processing District No. 3 (later ZIP code 89521). The post office moved from Reno to Fernley on December 1st of that year and remains there today as one of Nevada's most important institutions and symbols.
