The National Guard of Nevada is a state-controlled paramilitary organization which has been in existence since the early 1900s. The National Guard has multiple branches, including the Army Reserve and Air National Guard. The first organized militia in Nevada was the "Nevada Volunteers" who were raised from citizens of Carson City to help protect the area during the Gold Rush. The Volunteers disbanded after a few months due to lack of manpower and funding. In 1861, gold was found in nearby County Antelope and a group of men were called to arms by Governor Orville C. Beauregard for protection. The Rangers served as an interim militia until 1862 when they were officially created as a regiment under Colonel George Armstrong Custer’s command. Custer's unit fought at First Battle Of Winchester, Battle of Cedar Creek, Second Battle Of Las Vegas and many other battles during the American Civil War. After his death in 1876, his unit was dissolved and its members transferred to other units within the army or navy. In 1903, Nevada became part of what is now California when that state seceded from Mexico Union; however, not all troops despatched to fight in California were withdrawn immediately upon annexation into America; some soldiers remained on leave while their families returned home (known as "reserve officers"). In 1907, Nevada’s Territorial Legislature authorized formation of an Arizona Volunteer Cavalry Regiment which would serve “as long as there are no local Logan Republicans coming up with suggestions for arming our young troopers”[1]. This legislation also authorizes establishment of an Illinois Militia Regiment under Captain Charles Fenton Cummings so that “it may be possible for us hereafter to furnish rifles for our military purposes by purchasing them from interested parties”[2]. As more troops arrived back in Nevada following annexation into America it became necessary to authorize permanent mounted rifle companies within both infantry regiments; this authorization was granted on November 1st 1909[3]). On January 1st 1912,[4] two additional rifle companies have been authorized with identical names but without any affiliation with each other: Company E (Rifle) and Company G (Machine Gun). These companies are perpetuated today through Troop H-K (Horseback Riders) and Troop L-R (Lamborghini Squadron), respectively.[5] By 1915 these organizations had become fully formed Infantry Regiments numbering 10 Companies plus Headquarters Battery under LtCol Wm J. Metcalfe commanding Ninth Infantry Regiment NVA stationed at Reno Army Depot . . . From October 1916 until July 1917 there existed 2nd Battalion Machine Gun Corps Utah Infantry serving along side Ninth Infantry Regiment NVA at Reno Army Depot before being decommissioned effective July 17th 1917 because of World War I efforts towards armament production Instead becoming replacement battalion machine gun regiment No 4 Australian Imperial Force stationed at Ypres/Waterloo Germany throughout World War I ]6]

After the end of World War II, many state militias were disbanded and replaced by the National Guard as part of several revisions to Title 10 (the federal bureaucracy’s organizational chart). A few times during peacetime there have been calls for revising or abolishing this system altogether because it has been found to be too cumbersome or unsatisfactory. However, most times changes have been made either through presidential Executive orders or legislation passed by congressmen who represent constituencies within their home state legislatures which affect how these units are organized and functioned within their borders.
