Mesquite is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was estimated to be 201,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clark County. Mesquite has been inhabited since the late Pleistocene epoch by Native American people who called it "Moccasinhorn." When developers proposed building a major freeway through what is now Mesquite in the early 1970s, mesquite citizens campaigned successfully to keep the town on its original site. The city's first professional football team was formed in 1973 and played its home games at Pershing Field until 1984 when they moved to University Stadium. The NFL left Mesquite for Las Vegas following the 1992 season and Mesquite's only professional wrestling organization, World Wrestling Federation (WWF), held their final event here on October 12th, 1992 also known as "The Great Khali Congress". In 2000, construction began on Interstate 895 which runs through downtown Mesquite and will connect Las Vegas with Phoenix and Tucson Arizona. The $2 billion project was completed in 2006 but has had few effects on downtown because most of the development took place outside of the highway's intended path. In recent years there have been efforts to make use of I-895 as an economic corridor between Reno and Phoenix by building hotel complexes, office towers and other related businesses along its route; however these plans have not yet progressed beyond planning stages due to various objections from residents near intersections where I-895 would intersect with other roads. Today much of what once made up downtown Mesquite are gone or greatly changed little since it ceased being a center for commerce over a decade ago. Some notable buildings that remain include: Pershing Hall which served as home for both local baseball teams from 1936 until 1951 and later became home for college athletics; University Stadium which hosts many live events including NFL games; North Clark Street which ran down one side of town before turning into East Mesa Boulevard; Schaefer Arena which hosted local MMA bouts until it closed in 2009 after 21 years; and Downtown Plaza—a mix of retail space, apartments and a small park located between South Main Street and East Mesa Boulevard—which still contains some remnant shops/restaurants/bars/. Local landmarks such as those listed above continue to be used by locals today while others were abandoned or taken over by new businesses when I-895 came around.

Mesquite, Nevada is a small town in the Clark County area of Nevada. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Las Vegas and is bordered by Paradise to the north, North Las Vegas to the east, Henderson to the south, and Boulder City to the west. The community began as a cattle station in 1868 when James Waddell established it along Red Rock Canyon Road near present-day Mesquite. Waddell's ranch was one of several that were developed in what is now Clark County during the early 19th century following gold discoveries in nearby Nye County. By 1870, mesquite had become an important site for grazing and shipping goods along Red Rock Canyon Road. In 1887, grazers started cutting down timber on nearby Mount Charleston for use as pulpwood; this led to increased traffic on Red Rock Canyon Road and eventually helped contribute to mesquite's status as an important settlement. Mesquite soon became known for its produces such as wheat, barley, cottonseed oil (a key ingredient in plastics), haystack coal (a valuable fuel used by miners), cattle and horses. The first post office was established at mesquite in 1889; it served a population of about thirty people. In 1907 there were only six residents living in mesquite; by 1910 there were over one hundred residents with a combined workforce of seventy-seven men and women working out of ten businesses within Mesquite proper or adjacent communities including Centerville (later renamed North Centerville), Round Valley Rancho Gulch, White Sands Rancho Adobe NoHo (renamed Henderson after World War II), Black Mesa Rancho Adobe Hacienda del Rey (later named Las Vegas) and Indian Wells Apache Reservation rancher Josefina Ortiz’s holdings which included much of present-day Mesquite proper including Doña Ana Lake where he built his famous hunting lodge called “El Callao” later renamed Lake Mead National Recreation Area). In 1932 pressure from new developers led to passage of Assembly Bill 6390 which limited development within one mile of any water source; this led to shutdowns at many local mines until 1944 when state Senator Harry Reid finally passed Senate Bill 4362 which reinstated mining operations outside those designated areas After World War II ended with Japan's surrender A New Frontier campaign was launched across Nevada drawing people from all over America who wanted adventure opportunities open up so they could settle down The result was millions more acres being opened up for ranching/ farming/ mineral exploration leading directly to today's towns like Mesquite
Mesquite was founded in 1838 by Captain James W. Mesquite and his wife, Mary. The town became a postoffice in 1840, and a railroad depot was built in 1845. In 1865, the town was renamed Mesquite after General mesquite of the Mormon Battalion who fought at the Battle ofdm Wells near St. George in Utah. The population of Mesquite grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to irrigation projects and cattle drives that took people to the area for milk and meat. By 1920, Mesquite had over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents.
