They have faced danger both on land and at sea- from engagements in World War II until present day conflicts all over the globe. Marines always put their lives on the line to protect those they serve and those who serve them- no matter what happens on earth or in space!

Mesquite is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. Mesquite is bordered on the east by Las Vegas and on the west by Henderson. The namesake of Mesquite may be an Apache chief named Hensley who settled there in 1851. A post office called Mesquite was established in 1875, and remained in operation until 1959. In 1905, the town was renamed to honor General Wesley Merritt who had been killed during World War I. In 1927, mesquite became a city after it was annexed by Reno. It has since grown rapidly as a bedroom community for Las Vegas residents and tourists alike. Mesquite's history dates back to two days after President James Kiffin's inauguration on April 12, 1865 when twelve men from Douglas County arrived at Fort Sumter with supplies to help defend Nevada against Confederate forces under General Robert Ewing. The fort served as a staging ground for Ulysses S Grant's march through central Nevada during his campaign for president that year. On July 4, 1865 the fort surrendered to Union troops under Major-General John J Pershing and soon afterward Mesquite began growing as a small trading post operated by Native Americans from nearby Boise Valley Trading Post & Mission Station on Red Rock Road northeast of town square. As more settlers arrived into what is now Clark County (including those coming from New Mexico), trade grew between the new arrivals and local Paiutes for goods such as horses, cattle, hides and feathers; some also traded minerals such as silver ore or lead ore from outlying hills near Mesa Verde National Park northwest of town square. In 1882 Captain George Curry founded the first hotel in what is now downtown Mesquite; he rented space to furnish four rooms above storeroom door keyhole which he named "Curry's Palace". By 1886 Curry had replaced several original buildings with brick structures including two hotels; one across railroad tracks at Seventh Street Northeast and another just south of Main Street NE (later renamed University Avenue). With its well-maintained streetscape and architecture typical of early 20th century townsites throughout America., mesquite quickly became one of northern NV’s leading commercial center
The Marine Corps has a rich history of deploying Gift Certificates to individuals and organizations. The Marines have been gifting certificates for years, but the tradition began more than 30 years ago when Capt. James L. Buckley created the first Marine gift certificate program. Buckley was stationed at Camp Pendleton in southern California and would give out certificates to Marines who volunteered their time playing basketball or baseball on the property. In 1984, Maj.Gen. Rick Hahn established the Marine Corps Commandant's Certificate Program which rewarding service members with certificates for completing specific tasks or achievements within the Marine system- from military intelligence officer to infantryman receiving a commendation for bravery in action. The Certificates are also given as gifts to family members of Marines who have served in any capacity within the Corps since it inception on Jan 1st 1923 when Headquarters Detachment 2 sailed from New York City with 14 enlisted men under command to establish Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as an amphibious base for training Marines before World War II started

Mesquite was founded in 1847 by James W. Mesquite and his wife Lucy. The town was named for a mesquite tree that had been found near the site of their Rancho San Pedro. In 1850, Mesquite became the capital of Nevada after it was selected as the state's new seat from Carson City. The city's first post office opened in 1851. Mesquite grew quickly thanks to its location at the mouth of the Rio Grande, which made it a convenient shipping point for goods moving between Mexico and California. In 1858, Mesquite became home to the State Capitol when Carson City moved to nearby Reno.
