The Nevada Naval Militia was founded in 1905 as the Navy Department of Carson City. The first officer appointed to the department was Commodore John H. Sibley, who served until 1912. On July 1, 1912, the Nevada Legislature created the Navy Department within the Bureau of Public Works and passed an act establishing it as a separate agency with responsibility for naval supplies and equipment. In 1916, Commodore George C. Marshall became director of the navy department and directed its expansion into coastal waters east of Reno by purchasing vessels from local companies and leasing others to augment existing fleets at sea. In 1940, when World War II began,Nevada's navy had 9 destroyers (4 converted merchant ships) but no submarines or torpedo boats because those were not yet developed. However, we did have a small number of aircraft carriers that could carry torpedoes (2). The state government contributed $1 million towards construction of 2 new USS Monmouths at Port Hudson Bay in 1944-1945 which would become our first submarine base outside of New York City! Although World War II destroyed most Nevada's fleet including 3 submarines built during that time period it also brought about many new technologies such as radar and sonar that are now used by all navies around the world today. In 1948-1949 Commodore Luther Peebles transferred command of the navy department to Rear Admiral Harry Waddell who led it until his retirement in 1969 when it was again transferred to Rear Admiral Richard Ewing who served until 1973 when he resigned due to marital troubles then Captain William Jinks took over until 1977 when he retired due to ill health also Captain Jinks succeeded him becoming First Lieutenant Governor & Commander in Chief The State Naval Militia today is one hundred fifty two years old with more than four thousand personnel providing military services statewide

The USS Nevada (BB-38) was a battleship of the United States Navy. She was laid down on 15 October 1915 by the Bethlehem Steel Company, Baltimore, Maryland; launched on 20 October 1916; and commissioned on 29 May 1922 with Captain George H. Wickersham in command. The ship served during World War II as part of the Atlantic Fleet, escorting convoys to North Africa and Europe. She played an important role in the Battle of Midway and was damaged by Japanese torpedoes off Okinawa On 5 June 1945. After being repaired at San Pedro, California, she returned to service in September 1945 and made her last voyage from Pearl Harbor to New York City on 10 November 1945. Nevada was decommissioned at Norfolk Naval Shipyard on 8 December 1946 and struck from the Navy List on 21 December 1946.
Mesquite, Nevada is a small town located in the rural area of Clark County, Nevada. The population was 7,887 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Las Vegas-Henderson metropolitan area. Mesquite began as a post office on April 25th, 1881. The name Mesquite comes from the Apache word y’aller “mesquiteto” meaning "a place where there are many mesquitoes." The first settler in what is now Mesquite was George Wickersham and his family. In 1907, Harry Condon bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land from George Hinkle for $10 per acre. Condon named his property after John Fenton Haskell who had donated land to the University of California at Berkeley in 1906 for a new campus. Haskell's donation made Mesquite one of the original towns in Clark County. The newest development in town is called Park Hills which opened up in 2006 and provides over 2,000 housing units with views of downtown Las Vegas and Hoover Dam. Park Hills also has a large shopping center with restaurants, cafes and stores including Macy's Department Store and Sears Tower Marketplace mall which opened up in 2009 adjacent to Reservoir Lake Recreation Area providing an excellent opportunity for residents to enjoy boating or fishing while living close by! In recent years, Mesquite has seen some growth due to its proximity to Interstate 15 and its easy access to both Reno and Carson City Airport making it an ideal location for businesses such as hospital jobs or remote medical services!

Mesquite is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 33,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Mesquite is located on the edge of what was once the Mojave Desert and now lies within Antelope Valley National Grasslands UNESCO World Heritage Site. The first residents of Mesquite were Paiutes who came to this area in 1848 from California. They built smaller villages until they had a total of seventy-six people in 1861 when they founded the city of Mesquite. A post office was established in Mesquite on October 15, 1861, and remained open until it closed on November 1, 1912. The town was named for General James Giddings meshed (a name meaning "meshing together") because he spent many years fighting in Mexico City during the Mexican-American War. Mesquite experienced some very hard times during its early years as a settlement due to lack of water and transportation resources which limited entrepreneurship and growth opportunities. However, over time ranchers developed an strong business climate due to their unique livestock management skills and an abundance of available grazing land with good soil for farming production; this led to increased economic development that helped support local schools, businesses and hospitals throughout the years. The annexation by Las Vegas happened on January 1st 1960 which made Mesquite one of those cities included within that city’s limits; however it has never been considered as its formalcapital because it does not have municipal services such as zoning or planning ordinances like other areas within Las Vegas boundaries that do not fall under jurisdictional jurisdiction but are instead administered by individual municipalities/cities with their own governing structures including funding allocations etc.; this also includes streets, roads and public works projects carried out by respective municipality/city staff rather than through contractual arrangements between government entities like Mesquite Municipal Services Department (MMSD) and various private companies involved in infrastructure development withinLas Vegas Metropolitan Area as well as surrounding jurisdictions).
