As a result, naval stores began arriving at the new harbor on a daily basis, making it one of the most heavily trafficked harbors in Nevada! Sparks, Nevada is a small town in Clark County, Nevada. It was founded in 1875 by Mormons who moved from Logan, Utah. The population of Sparks peaked at 3,000 in 1940 and has since shrunk to less than 1,000. In the early 1800s, the area that now includes Sparks was part of what is now known as the Mormon Trail. Mormon pioneers traveled through this area in search of new land to settle. In 1875, when they arrived in what is now Sparks, they named their new town after John Sutter, one of the founders of California. The original Sparks Post Office opened on July 6th,.1875. The community grew quickly and by 1905 it had a population of over 100 residents. At that time, electricity was not available for public use so citizens relied on candles or kerosene lamps to light their homes. Over time there were several attempts at creating an electric company in Sparks but all were unsuccessful because there was no real market for such a service. In 1922–23 a group of local businessmen formed the Electric Light and Power Company to provideElectricity to Sparks residents without having to pay for it from outside sources like Denver or Sacramento. However, this organization failed as well due to lack of interest from investors and customers alike. In 1939 only 9 people lived in Spark

Sparks, Nevada is a small town located in the eastern corner of Clark County, Nevada. The population was 3,684 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Reno-Carson City Metropolitan Area. Sparks' history dates back to 1875 when Mormon settlers founded a settlement on the east side of US 50 in what is now south Sparks Township. By 1907, there were just a few hundred residents living in Sparks. In 1957, Sparks became an incorporated community with full street and building names given by its founders - John Fenton and Lula Wagoner - after their hometown of Niles, Illinois. The original downtown included only one store and two residences. The first post office in Sparks opened on November 15, 1907. In 1959, the name was changed to honor General David Silliman who had been governor of Nevada from 1951-1957 and who had helped promote western development in Nevada. On July 1st of that year (1959), sparks incorporated as a municipality with its own government which includes four council members and thirty-six employees including clerk/Treasurer/Police Chief/Fire Marshal/Nurse Manager; it also has its own school district and library system!
