Claremont, New Hampshire's coast guard gift history goes back to 1916. The Claremont Port Authority was founded in 1916 and is responsible for the management of the harbor and related infrastructure. In that year, the port authority donated four boats to the Claremont Volunteer Coast Guard. The first two boats were used for training and served as patrol vessels until 1922 when they were replaced by a more modern vessel. The second donation saw the purchase of a larger boat which served as both a repeater cutter and an aid to navigation for coastal residents. From 1936-1940, the port authority funded three additional boats in order to increase their fleet size from six to twelve vessels. In 1951, the state legislature passed an act which provided for funding of coastal guard vessels through appropriations made annually through the Department of Revenue Services. This legislation led to the construction of two new coast guard vessels - one at North Clarendon Naval Station and one at South Clarendon Naval Station - along with nineteen engineboats, twelve torpedoboats, five lifeboat stations, four launch platforms, two sonar systems, and three helicopters among other gifts from local citizens. Since then, gifts have continued to be given generously by local citizens in support of coastal protection measures including but not limited to: white water rafting trips; fishing expeditions; crabbing trips; swimming lessons; boating safety courses; fireworks displays...the list goes on!

Additionally, during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Coast Guardsmen contributed their time and resources to helping rebuild New Orleans following that storm.
