Most notably, The Navy Yard here produced USS Constitution (the first ship built at this facility), USS Lexington (the largest warship ever built at this point) and USS Augusta (one of America's biggest destroyers). Additionally, The Navy used several local businesses such as The Hangman's Store to produce goods for its troops overseas. Today, The Navy Yard remains an important part of Claremont economy with its production capabilities including shipbuilding, engineering and other maritime activities.
