Concord, New Hampshire is a town in Franklin County, New Hampshire. The population was 5,546 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the four towns in Franklin County and has the second-smallest population density of any municipality in New Hampshire. Concord's economic base is manufacturing and service jobs; it also contains many small businesses that are not typically found elsewhere in the state. The growth of technology and new business opportunities has led to an increase in its number of small businesses as well. The town began as a small settlement on the banks of the Merrimack River near where it meets the Connecticut River today. In 1784, John Adams moved his family from Northampton to Concord due to religious differences with nearby Northampton over taxes levied on Congregationalists there. The town was first named "Fenway" after one of Adams' brothers-in-law, Jonathan Fenway. A group of men who were residents of Concord petitioned for a charter from King George II to establish a village here because they felt that their trade would be better served by closer access to goods coming downriver than by shipping them upriver through Massachusetts Bay Company ships. By 1825, only about fifty people lived in Concord proper while nine hundred families lived along various waterways within or bordering on what is now Concord Town limits In 1820, Samuel Morse established himself as a printer in Manchester and started publishing maps and other educational materials which soon reached Concord viaagle Ferry across Lake Champlain (now part of Rochester). This printing press made possible new ideas about communication which took hold throughout much America during this time including early railroads whose construction allowed for greater commerce between populous cities like Boston and Philadelphia as well as smaller communities east coast via rivers such as Delaware or Rhode Island . The Emerson familyowned store at 138 High Street still stands today closed but frequently rented out space inside Old State House museum (built 1828) for concerts and other events until 2007 when it reopened under new ownership with exhibits about local history since 1977
