Dover, New Hampshire is home to the United States Air Force's 5th Wing. The wing is responsible for providing air defense and air mobility in support of U.S. forces abroad. The wing was established on 1 October 1947 as the 5th Bombardment Wing, stationed at Dover Air Force Base. In 1957, the wing was redesignated the 6th Bombardment Wing and its headquarters moved to Boston, Massachusetts. In 1961, the wing became a subordinate unit of the 4th Bomber Command and received its own identity as part of that command's global strategic bomber offensive against Nazi Germany and Japan. From 1969 until 1997, when it was reassigned back to Dover Air Force Base as an operational affiliate of the USAF Strategic Air Command (SAC), the wings remained subordinate to SAC with their respective operational areas being located in New England and California respectively. On 15 November 1997, elements of both wings participated in Operation Desert Storm during which they struck targets inside Iraq from 3-15 November 1997. This action by both wings resulted in two aerial victories for each wing over Iraqi airspace and four total aircraft losses for both commands; this represented one of only two times in history that any two USAF Wings have achieved simultaneous kills in enemy territory (the other being during World War II). The 5th Wing also played a significant role during Operation Joint Endeavor from 20-25 February 1999 when they bombed Baghdad using Boeing E-3 Sentry airborne Warning System aircraft; this action effectively disrupted Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons program while also delivering humanitarian aid to Iraqi citizens trapped inside Saddam Hussein's regime. The 5th Wing has also been involved with numerous other missions throughout its history including participation in Freedom flight operations conducting flyovers of key U.S military installations worldwide; training exercises with NATO partners; airshows throughout New England; pilgrimage flights to various religious sites around America; visits by dignitaries such as Presidents George H W Bush and Bill Clinton; Special Operations Forces deployments including OPERATION PHALAENIX which occurred during Thanksgiving week 1999; Global Strike Missions flown against Al Qaeda targets across Afghanistan beginning on 11 September 2001 - these missions were conducted under difficult conditions using Cessna 172s equipped with infrared video equipmentOperational flying hours are limited due to restrictions placed upon them by Headquarters Air Combat Command effective 1 January 2008."

Dover is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 21,812 at the 2010 census. Dover is the second most populous municipality in New Hampshire afterManchester and it is also one of the most populous towns in New England. Dover has been named one of America's "10 Best Small Towns" by Forbes magazine four times and has been selected as a model town by the National Park Service. The first Europeans to visit what is now Dover were French traders working for Pierre-Simon LaFontaine and his exploration party on their way from Quebec to Boston in 1603. In 1768, James Potter established Portsmouth Plantation near present-day Portsmouth when he bought land from General John Burgoyne for £5 per acre. The potteries that developed around this time are still in operation today, making Dover an important economic center within New Hampshire. Dover's origins date back to December 1624 when English colonists settled here as part of the Plymouth Colony under Captains William Bradford and Edward Winslow. On February 24, 1630, they erected a general storehouse known as Fort Bradford on nearby Long Island Sound which was later renamed Portsmouth after its original owner, Samuel Pepys (1623-1697). For many years it served as headquarters for both Plymouth Colony and Massachusetts Bay Colony before being moved to Charlestown in 1684. At its height the fort housed about 25 people but today only fragments remain of original architecture including two churches and several buildings used by government offices such as those used today by the Department of Homeland Security at One Federal Plaza in downtown Dover. A primary reason forgiveance for these dilapidated conditions was lack of any funds available to maintain them; importantly Fort Bradford played an important role during wars with all three colonies until it finally fell into disrepair circa 1775 following British conquest of North America preceding American independence. Under British rule there were no native inhabitants living within touching distance so goods imported into Nova Scotia were taxed heavily while local farmers received little benefit because their products were not sold abroad like woolen cloths or other manufactured goods became increasingly expensive due to transportation costs imposed uponerous regulations promulgated by Parliamentarians during this period known as The Navigation Acts . As shipbuilding techniques improved following American independence however fewboats could be built preoccupied British engineers instead turned their attention towards naval shipyards yards where large ships such as man-of-war could be constructed much more quickly than previous designs utilizing innovative engineering methods including use of timber framesinstead of traditional masonry construction employing dayscrew labor which had become familiar across Europe thanks largely to Dutch designers who pioneered this type of construction during their reign between 1585-1625 In 1802 Captain George Pocock (1792–1854) became Commandant at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Coaling Station No 1 & 2 adjacent baytown Wilmington Delaware after serving aboard HMS Victory (G1 8vo) during Napoleonic Wars with Great Britain .
