Dover is the smallest town in Franklin County and has the lowest population density of any town in the state. It lies on the southern edge of Manchester-by-the-Sea, a resort town onNH 4urge State Road 9. Dover's history began with an early settler named John Goodloe who founded a small farming community near present day Dover on December 20th, 1795. Goodloe's settlement was also known as "Goodloe's Ferry" because it served as a crossing point for NH 4urge Route 9 which crossed Lake Winnipesaukee from east to west. Dover quickly became known as a thriving fishing and agricultural center due to its rich soil and abundance of fisheries resources such as bass, crappie, catfish and perch. In 1820 the first school was built in Dover by Reverend James Wetherill and his wife Esther Jepson Wetherill. The first teacher at that time was Mrs. Henniker who taught 1st grade until 1823 when she moved to Lincoln Parish to teach school there for six years before returning to Dover to open her own school in 1830 . The towns growth continued throughout the 19th century with new commercial buildings being erected along NH 4urge Route 9 including several hotels which were used by travelers during their visits to Manchester by way of this route. Throughout these years there were also many religious services held here including services conducted by Revs Judge Tilton (1860 - 1912), Dr Redmond (1868 - 1919) and Rev Mr White (1875 - 1947). In 1907 Appleton & Company established themselves as America's first department store chain with their flagship store located at 222 Main Street in Manchester-by-thesea where they owned and operated it until 1959 when they relocated it to Alden; however, they continue operations through Regency Mall nearby until their closure in 1991. During this time period Appleton & Company laid out one of North America's largest shopping districts with more than 100 stores spread across nine states bordering Massachusetts . Dover experienced another period of prosperity during World War II with an increase in military personnel living here due to wartime production requirements for munitions manufacturers across eastern Massachusetts ; however following the war both businesses went into decline although some stores managed to reopen under new ownership after the war while others failed completely.. However, following passage of The Civil Rights Act Amendments of 1964 Dover slowly started moving back up again becoming one of New England’s most respected communities despite continuing poverty rates among its residents which remain above 50% today . Today there are only 8 businesses remaining within downtown Portsmouth Square employing over 150 people including many local farmers who produce fruits and vegetables grown onsite or brought into town from surrounding farms; these businesses include: A&P Supermarket (closed 1977), BP gas station (closed 1978), Carpenter Hardware Store (closed 1981), Chinese restaurant called Mei Kaiwan which opened in 1984; KFC outlet closed 1992; Live Aid concert staged at Portsmouth square August 25th 1985 featuring artists like Queen Latifah, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson all taking part.; Dunkin' Donuts opened inside Regency mall November 5th 1997 replacing Carrabba's Italian Restaurant closed 1993 after serving as that restaurants primary customer base since 1983 ; finally Toys 'R Us closed 2002 leaving only two business still operating within downtown Portsmouth Square apart from One Stop Drug Mart which reopened January 2003 after closing 2001 vacated by Mervyn’s Department Store chain earlier that year.; Today nearly all activities within downtown Portsmouth Square take place inside Regency mall instead due increases popularity within neighboring Concord Hills Shopping Center resulting in larger crowds making it difficult for smaller businesses or individuals trying To do business outside without risking oblivion

Dover, New Hampshire is a town in York County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. Dover is one of the oldest settlements in New Hampshire and has been inhabited since 1614. It was named for Sir John Duns Scotus, 1st Baronet of Scotstown. The town is located on the western bank of the Connecticut River northeast of Manchester and west of Lebanon. It straddles Route 123 and is bordered by Enfield to the south and Lebanon to the north. According to the 2010 census, Dover's total area is 26 square miles (79 square kilometers). The climate in Dover varies from humid subtropical with heavy rains during summer months to colder continental winters with severe cold periods throughout winter typically lasting six weeks or more at a time. In summertime temperatures can reach up to 90°F (32°C) while winter lows are below 0°F (0°C). As such, it offers opportunities for both outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming as well as indoor recreations including bowling alley, gymnasium, movie theater and restaurant/bar complexes which often serve up hot food during warm weather days outside or enjoy views of busy downtown areas during winter evenings when temperatures dip below freezing. Dover began as an agricultural community that grew around woolen production until 1837 when ships began sailing downriver carrying goods back upriver from Manchesterport on Long Island City which made way for what would become known as "the Great Lakes". This event spelled doom for many small villages along the route including Dover because their trade stopped suddenly making them unable to compete financially with those upstream communities which became known as "the Great Lakes ports". In 1876 local resident Amos Kendall formed a company called The Girders that built two railroads crossing over Rte 123 just east of where today's Gateway Drive meets Interstate 95 - this allowed him easy access into Manchester without having to go through Pennsylvania or Vermont which were then both part of Pennsylvania at that time. quickly becoming one of NH’s major industries thanks largely in part to his efforts! He also donated land adjacent to his mills on South Main Street between 4th & 5th Streets in Dover now home to several hundred residential units along with commercial properties used by locals and businesses alike until recently when it was annexed by Manchester proper creating yet another business district within its borders!
Dover was a small town in New Hampshire from 1784 to 1814. It was part of the Maine Territory and its population was 1,047 in 1800. Dover's first settler, John White, arrived in 1784. The town was platted on November 15, 1789, by three men: Ebenezer Morse, Nicholas Webster and Job Trimble. The town became a post town on December 12, 1792. In 1802 it became an incorporated village with a population of 511. On July 10, 1814, Dover joined the Union as a state capital of New Hampshire.
