Laconia is a town in Nashua County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. Laconia is part of the Manchester–Worthington, NH-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Laconia was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1768 and named for the city of Lŵonburg in Prussia. The first settler was James Dean who arrived in 1777 and started a mill on the Pee Dee River. In 1809, John Chapman built a sawmill on what is now Main Street. There were also two gristmills here until 1827 when they were combined into one and renamed Laconia Mills (now owned by Chapin's Mill). The first school in Laconia was opened in 1837 by Reverend John Higginson with ten students. A second school building was erected around 1840 which served as the courthouse until 1888 when it burned down. In 1865, General Sherman visited Nashua and decided to build his headquarters there instead of Atlanta because he felt that Manchester would be too far away from Washington D.C.—a decision that led to many local businesses continuing to trade with Atlanta even after Sherman's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865 Laconia became an incorporated town on March 1, 1870 under state law No. 6 of 1870. On October 15th of that year residents voted to name their new town "Laconia" based upon its location near Portsmouth Bridge across the Pee Dee River

This ushered in a new era of international Coffee Culture where people eagerly tasted different types of bean while living cheek by jowl with their neighbors on street corners all over America.

Laconia was founded in 1795 by the brothers John and Nicholas Laconia. The town grew rapidly due to its excellent transportation infrastructure, and by 1825 it had a population of over 1000 people. In 1865, Laconia became the capital of New Hampshire.
