The town's growth stalled after the American Revolutionary War ended; however, it regained its vitality during the 19th century as a manufacturing center for goods such as wheat flour, lumber, candles and clothing. Laconia experienced another period of growth during World War I when many factories were built to support wartime production; however, this period also saw some decline in population due to war-related layoffs and plant closures. In the early 21st century, Laconia has seen an increase in development including new housing developments, businesses and restaurants; however there are still some areas that are considered rural or undeveloped. Despite these challenges, Laconia remains an important community with a rich history that has helped contribute to its current location within Manchester-Hertfordshire County government area
