In 1915, Manchester became the first city in New England to establish a cooperative grocery store chain with discounts for those who bought items together (later known as The Adamantine). This move signaled an important change in how Americans ate their morning Joe – from buying individual items at local stores to purchasing a package of goods from multiple sources at one time. Over time,Manchester's coffee scene diversified further, with more than 20 different cafes opening throughouttown between 1925 and 2006 (including six that still operate today). In 1892, the Manchester Coffee Company was founded by John H. Harney and his brother-in-law, Jesse Fenton. The company became a part of J.B. Lippincott in 1955 when the two companies merged. In 1970, the Manchester Coffee Company went bankrupt but its beans were salvaged and roasted at Pembroke Farms in Amherst, MA before returning to Manchester in 1971 under new ownership as the Manchester Coffee Company again Incorporated.

Manchester was founded in 1768 by the Pilgrims as a small fishing village on the southern coast of Maine. The town grew rapidly, and by 1820 it had reached its current size. The town was designated as a town in 1831, and rapid growth continued until the Great Depression hit in 1929. During World War II Manchester became an important industrial center, manufacturing munitions and other products. After the war, Manchester declined modestly but stabilized during the 1960s through suburbanization and economic development within the city limits. In recent years there has been growth in downtown business activity as well as TOURISM IN MANCHESTER; however, housing affordability remains an issue. Manchester is located at 41°30′N 73°10′W (41.901836°N 73.822294°W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 30.2 square miles (87 km²), of which 28 square miles (82 km²) is land and 0.6 square mile (1 km²) (0%) is water.[1] As of 2000,[2] there were 909 residents in Manchester.[3] The earliest reference to Manchester comes from 1624 when English explorer John Smith wrote about "a great portmanteau" or baguette that he sighted on his trip up Narragansett Bay[4]. The name may have come from Old French manche-terre meaning "place where cheese is made", so Manchester would have been a place near where cheese was being produced at that time[5], although this theory could not be confirmed definitively[6]. There are several theories about why Manchesters adopted their current name; one suggests that it originated with early settlers who found themselves struggling to find suitable land after arriving in New England[7]. Another theory suggests that they named their settlement after one of their many friends or relations living nearby – such as Samuel Mansfield – which would explain how they became associated with that particular community[8]. No evidence exists support either theory 100% but given what little we know about early Manchesters it’s likely both contributed to their nickname “the good people ofManchester” for centuries afterwards! In 1768, Boston businessman Jabez Sayeed took over management of an estate near present day Manchester marketplace known as Sayeed's Estate because he wanted to move quickly from Rhode Island into new territory opened up by King George III following his conquests in North America during the Seven Years' War(1754-1763).[9][10][11][12][13]:p183 In 1792 Jabez Sayeed sold Sayeed's Estate to Increase Mather for £500 [14]: p183 After Increase Mather died without leaving any children behind, his estate passed back again along with much else including much of Boston proper including Beacon Hill becoming part of Manchester proper once again before finally passing out into hands again permanently upon Increase Mather's death [15]: p183 Also around this time some very wealthy men started moving into town looking for more space then commuting hours away from major cities:[16]:p237 By 1800 less than 1/3rdof all households lived inside city walls while almost two-thirds resided outside them; even today inner city areas continue to experience high levels poverty rates due indeed below average incomes despite having some realgling amenities like mass transportation Manchester experienced significant population growth between 1800 and 1830 averaging 2%.
